Upside down? Do you mean a top mounted turbo? It won't matter what direction your turbine and compressor housings line up. What matters is if your center section is mounted in the normal direction. Oil feed and drain on the right sides. The Mitsubishi turbos have a small pin on the compressor housing and turbine housing that line up with the center section. If you grind those off, you can clock them and mount it any way you want.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

No, you cannot flip the cast manifold. If you have a tubular manifold, I'd recommend cutting off the flange and welding it upside down if you have the hood clearance. If you're making a custom manifold, you could angle the turbo flange to tuck it up closer to the engine like the stock system does. Again all of this is possible if you simply clock your housings.

And DJ, of course I read the website. I also have about 6 years of "playing" with DSMs under my belt. I love these motors. :D
