DOHC engine relocation question

Post by widebodywoody »

Hey guys.

To start off I will let you know what I am planning to do.
I am building a DOHC 2.0Litre motor. From the Galant Vr4 Head and the Mitsubishi Starion 2.0Litre SOHC engine. There is only one problem with this. If I do this, the Thermostat will hit the firewall as well as the CAS. This engine is Going into a Mitsubishi Starion Widebody. I already know you guys know this will hit the firewall and you mentioned moving the engine forward 2 inch's. Here are my two questions.

1) By moving the engine forward 2" will that throw off the centre of gravity?
2) If I do move it forward, how will I still bolt this up to my stock gearbox? I will not be using the Mazda Bell housing, I was going to keep the stock box.

Thank you in advance.

Moving the engine foward will transfer weight to the front some, and you will have to modify the trans crossmember and lengthen your driveshaft.

Read the updates to the site. Start on the homepage (www.projectzerog.com) and then move onto the plumbing section. This should answer most of your questions.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Yeah thanks, I had already found out about those, but I had heard of some people just moving the engine forward and leaving those lines there. Cheers for clearing it up anyways, it seems like a better idea to re-locate them.
