I am in the early planning stages of 4G63 swap into a '84 D50 with G63B and 5spd (trany changed from 4spd for a trip cross country last year) . Not at all familiar with DSM.
Is there a site that chronicles this swap yet?
What year 4G63 do I get?
Sounds like I should use the entire DSM harness/ECU?
Will I pass emissions (I don't right now with Weber carb and need to register this July).
Where can I get all these parts the cheapest-I live in the Wash DC area.
Boy I got a lot to learn.

Thanks, from your info, other posts and the links to similar projects I have enough to get started. I have to gather as many parts as possible so I can make the swap "fast"-the D50 is our only ride.

I'll post more detailed questions/problems as I get into it. Seems like complete used 4g63's (yes, turbo) are about $1500 and 2-3K for rebuilt longblock. Any more economical options? I have limited space and no where to put a donor car though.

The only part I haven't figured out in my head is the cat and exhaust-what did you do?

PS-I can't weld.

those prices are pretty high. You could build a mean one in you basement for $1500. Keep looking. Some people just get fed up with DSMs and give them away. I got 2 whole DSMs for a total of $400

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
