which direction to go with engine wiring in my swap????

Post by TurboRWD »

So, i've started a 4G63 swap in my starion, but i had a question. I have most of the mechanical parts figured out but i'm debating the electrical. I've completely guted the entire car, electrical and all. What my question is, is which direction to go with the engine wiring and management. Would you guys suggest getting the engine wiring and ecu from a DSM, or my other option i'm considering is getting a complete standalone such as a haltech and wiring it myself... I was thinking about the dsm link for tuning, but obviously that uses the diagnostics port. I figured it'd probably be easier to just do a complete standalone rather than deal with all of the factory 1G engine wiring, mas, ecu, ect...
Any help?

If its already gutted you should probably get a Painless harness (not just a fuse panel like I did) and a standalone and do it right. Wiring adds up fast. Probably would have been best just to leave the stock wiring harness in the car, but who am I to talk. All I know is that I"m not wiring a car up from scratch again.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

yeah, it was my plan to get a painless wiring harness for the chassis, but i want sure about the engine. i guess the better route for the long run would be to custom wrie a standalone, especially considering i plan to add a large turbo and a bunch of injectors later on. But it if isnt too difficult, i might just use a dsm harness and ecu to get going initially.

With a good ECU you only need 4 big ones.
