Finally started....but cannot get tach working!

Post by 1 Bad 68 »

Hey guys, long time no see! Should have some videos up of mine in a few weeks from the next race.

Anyways, just finally got to drive my car for the first time in 2 years Thursday night. Everything is well except the tach. I've got a maf t gen 2 wired in @ the ecu and it reads the tach flawlessly. I have soldered in a wire @ that same place and tried running it to the wire under the hood that my SDS used to be hooked to on the old set up (which didn't work) and also tried it right @ the instrument cluster which didn't work either. Tach worked fine with SDS on my old setup and I even tried another cluster I had laying around just to make sure the tach didn't quit working after sitting for so long. Looking for suggestions! I really don't want to go aftermarket.

Thanks in advance!

What wire to the tach are you putting signal to?

Is the polarity of the signal different than it was on the previous setup?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I'm taking a wire straight from the tach signal at the ecu to the back of the cluster labled "ig-" that all of the MPI guys are using when they have tach problems. When I had my SDS in the car I ran it from the SDS ECU to the wire that used to hook up to the stock coil and that worked flawlessly. I also tried hooking up the 4g64 tach signal to that same wire I had the SDS hooked to but it didn't work.
