LOL, I know these pics are a long time coming, but here are some appetizers:

Machined these tapered bearing bases to act as spacers for the main shaft

Image

Reverse Magnus intake manifold . . . . runners will need shortening

Image

Whew . . . . enough for now

Short Shifter

Basic build up was similar to Mike's. It's comprised of:
- '89 Mighty Max (MM) / D50 bell housing
- '87 Conquest extention housing
- '87 Conquest main shaft and counter shaft
- MM bearings
- modified Conquest taper bearings as spacers (see pic above)
- short shifter

Purpose of this project was to see what kind of drift vehicle $5000 (including price of the car) would make. I thought about doing a 240 with RB swap, but then I came across this for $250. I've thought seriously about doing a RB20DET swap into this car, but in the end I know the 4G63 (2.4 stroker for this car) much better.

Other tid bits off hand:
Image

3" hi flow cat and 4" "stubby" muffler

Image

DAD racing seat with 3" cam lock 5 point harness.

I'd really like to know more about the internal swap. I still have all my parts, and now that I'm on the road, now is a good time to get on to that. Especially because my current $25 D50 tranny sounds like every gear is straight cut. It makes ungodly noises. Get a how to up on the internal swap including how to put this bitch back together. I'll probably forget where everything goes.

I'm serious dude... get a how to up SOOOOOOOOOOON for the benefit of everyone.

And test that turd out!!!! Bring it to Pigeon Forge if you don't have your car done yet and I'll try to break it for you.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Where the hell is Pigeon Forge???

I'll work on trying to explain the build through pics. Here's an overview. Assume everything is out and you have a bare D50 bell housing.

1) On the main shaft (side towards the extension housing) remove the two race bearings. Break the cages off of them and remove the ball bearings.
Image

2) I dont remember the exact measurements off hand (and no I'm not taking that tranny apart unless I have to  ) but the height of the "spacers" will have to be machined down. These spacers will sandwich the D50 bearing.

The one that is in the bellhousing will be used to keep the gear clusters pressed against one another.

The one that is in the extention housing will be used to set the reverse and 5th gears at the proper height.

3) Now to the other half of the mainshaft. Once again you will have to remove the bearing and press on the D50 bearing.

*Special note on the countershaft. I used the tapered bearing from the Starquest tranny on the output side and the D50 needle bearing on the input side.

4) Time to reassemble. First lay in the mainshaft with the first spacer in place.

(Picture shows the race bearing with cage on)

Next lay in the countershaft.

Than slide in the rest of the mainshaft from the belhousing side.

Once all the peices are in place then press on the D50 bearing and the other spacer.

5) reinstall everything else.

Sorry about the lack of pics. I was so quick to slap all the parts together when I got the spacers back for the 3rd time that the next thing I knew I was installing the short shifter  I'm working on a more indepth build, but that should give you a good place to start. Once again my tranny has not been tested and take no responsibility if the procedure is copied and fails. *disclaimer*

Pics are kinda unstable depending on my university's servers. Sometimes their up, and sometimes . . . . well they generally suck.

That's why you need to hurry up and put that site together!!! We'll host that shit. We can even put it on the UMBC servers as a backup. They're pretty reliable and HELLA fast.
