All the oily, spinning bits

Top mount exhaust header.

Post by 2000_turbo »

I want to share some pictures with you guys how I made my top mount exhaust header.

First of all I bought a excisting header of a 1G Eclipse. The first thing we did was cutting of the flange and extending the runners a bit.

Then we turned the header 180gr around and welded it to it's final place.

As you can see in the picture we also turned the runner from the external wastegate.

As you can see, we welded two pieces of extra metal between collector and flange for additional strenght, because the T3/T04 50 trim turbo is a heavy one :D

And the final step! I'm driving with this setup for over a year now and the manifold is holding well. No cracks or leaks what so ever.

Looks good. I've been thinking about doing the same thing but I'll probably do it with a cast manifold instead.

Why did you extend the runners?

Looks like it would hit the valve cover if they weren't extended. Looks very nice, what brand header did you use?

Thanks guys! Yes, we had to extend the runners because the turbo would hit the valve cover.
Yes again it's a DNP. :D

What's the advantage of flipping it, other than orientation?

It gives you more space for exhaust, external wastegate and you don't have to worry about the engine bracket......and it looks nice! 8)
