GOLD MINE!!!! I have been thinking about this for years

Post by Mazzhole »

I have had a starion/conquest for many years and have rebuilt the G54BT many times ending up with a 300 lb paperweight. right now i have an 87 starion with 57k on it. I have been lookin through this site for atleast an hour now but sifting threw the info is not easy i got some simple questions for u guys before i start stock piling parts!!

the D50 block will bolt up to my tranny that is a narrow or wide block?? and that block comes from mistsu trucks??

I looked on the engine chart site but its complicated to understand when ur not sure what ur looking at.

What are my other block optionsto still use my stock tranny or are their none. i have a lightened flywheel and stage 3 clutch for the stock motor will that bolt up to the other cranks??? what is the strongest block to start with??
My ultimate goal is 300-350 hp though do not need to built that in my first try.

Im lookin for a budget build since i have a motorcycle project as well right now. Im lookin to do the swap this winter in my garage. I'm tryin to figure out exactly the best way for me to go.

Thanx for any answers you give me, im sure i will have more!!!

It will take a little searching to find all of your answers on here. It just takes a little time to get familiar with the site.

The D50 block is likely a wide block. You need to measure your top bellhousing bolts from your Starion and find a block with the same measurement. (i think it's 13.25") You also need to decide which block you want. There are both 2.0L and 2.4L engines in the Mighty Max/D50. I believe the Starion clutch will bolt to the 6-bolt blocks. (6 flywheel bolts on the crank) Other than that, all you'll need is the head from a DOHC motor. Which ever variant you choose will give you different options, but all will bolt up to your block.

You can make 300hp without trying on the turbo 4G63. You'll need to swap out pistons at the very least to get the compression down on the 2.0L MM/D50 block. The rods should be the same in both the 2.4 and 2.0L engines. If you're going to go through the trouble of turboing a NA motor, you might as well get it done right and get oil squirters and higher compression pistons than the 6-bolt came with. You can get 8.5:1 pistons for about $200.

Everything else you do will be personal preference. Turbo, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, ECU etc. Good luck and put up some pics of your ride so we can see what you're up to.

I think the auto tranny 4g63 is wideblock and manual tranny is narrow block. I got lucky and pulled a 4g63 wideblock turbo motor out of a mighty max.

I'm using a NA 6 narrow block for my project. Only thing is I won't be using the stock slugs. Instead go find some EVO pistons as they were forged from the factory and work don't need any mods to go in. That way I don't have to worry about the stock NA pistons taking the extra beating over the lower compression turbo pistons. Only thing you need to do is bore out the rod as the wrist pin is just a hair bigger and shave the sides just a hair also. Just the same as installing 2G pistons on 1G rods. If using 2G rods then the EVO slugs just go right on. Check out EVolutionm.net as stock evo stuff goes for dirt cheap. I picked up the pistons/rods and a set of EVO8 cams and gears for 130 shipped. EVO8 cams work in 4G heads also. Just flip the cams around from intake to exhaust and so on. Here's the diagram of what needs to be done.
