4G63 Conquest Swap

Post by screemin eagle »

a little info on the build.
its a 1988 conquest.

the motor is eagle rods and weisco coated pistons .20 over 9:1 compression.it had clevite 77 bearings but the thrust bearing ate itself.so i replaced them with acls and so far so good. arp hardware on the mains and rods. no balance shafts and assembly has been balanced (supposedly).

the head is a butcher stage II ported head ss valves hks springs and titanium retainers with hks 272's and regular arp head studs with a MLS gasket super glued and torqued to 115 ftlbs with arp molly.

my intake is a jmf race sheet metal unit. its regualr 1g dsm spec only flipped for rwd. it just fit with the motor 2" foward.

the turbo is a precision scm50 ported mitsu bolt on housing o2 mounted tial 38 wastegate and a fp cast manifold.

tranny, clutch and fly wheel are toyota r154 with bills autofab bell housing.the shifter exstension is from tech2 motorsports it moves the shifter back 3 1/2".a fidanza aluminum fwd flywheel with an act 2600 pressure plate. the disc is from a local custome clutch shop local to me called Falcon. i had them make me a 6 puck unsprung hub with bronze pads. i have no chatter issues and its very streetable once you get used to the light flywheel.

the drive shaft was built by a shop local to me called Nassau Drive Shaft its a spicer 1310 yoke back to a 1350 vette flange. the vette flange bolts to a chunk of billet aluminum that has been machineed to fit the mitsu rear flange. everything has been balanced.

when running the supra tranny the stock rear gearing is off. i switched to 3:90's to get an acurate speedo and everything running in a streetable happy place. with the 3:54's @55mph on my speedo i was going roughly 67mph.

so now here are some of the rwd converion specific things. for cooling i went with the rear outlet on the head. i used the 1.8l t stat top and ran my upper cooling line above the exhuast manifold. my water pump and water pipe is a modified dsm pump. i pulled the freeze out plug on the end and had a fitting for a radiator hose welded on. the water pipe is part dsm and part starion. i cut them and reduced them down and welded together. works farily well. i have the jay racing alt relocation kit to run a saturn alt.

here's a few pics of my junk!

you dont know it dave, but you just answered a question, I am building the remote shifter setup and after I saw how much you needed and where it fit, I decided to do it a little different

The pic of the shifter is old. It now sits higher in the car. IIRC the shifter extends back 3" it was made by tech2 motorsports for a 2jz an r154 in a Nissan 240sx. It sells for $350.
