D50 Transmission Swap Kit

Post by DJpowerHaus »

As some of you guys already know, I've been cleaning out my shed, tearing down old chassis, cleaning up parts, packing them up and basically getting organized.

This is the closest I can offer as far as a 4G63 kit is concerned right now. This allows you to bolt up a DSM 4G63 (narrowblock) right out of a DSM. This came out of my daily driven swap that was documented on my website from a few years ago. Ran great until they day I parked it due to frustration with the chassis (electrical gremlins due to water in the engine bay harness and steering shake on the highway).

The D50 transmission isn't as ideal as some of the wideblock options that are out there, but it is the easiest entry level way to swap a 4G63 at the moment without having to source 2 engines and put together a DOHC wideblock.

This "kit" includes:

D50 pickup transmission with 88 Starion tail housing and waffle plate.
Modified cable clutch mechanism w/ multiple adjustment points
Wilwood Slave Cylinder with bracket
South Bend Clutch DXD Full Face Clutch Disk and Pressure Plate (looks rusty in pic but its just a haze)
FWD DSM 6 bolt flywheel with pilot bearing modification
Adapter plates to move engine forward 2" to avoid firewall modifications
Driveshaft that has been extended 2" and balanced professionally
High and Low Power steering lines to use the Stock steering box with the 4G63 power steering pump.
Stock Shifter
Stock Transmission Crossmember and bushing.

This doesn't include the 4G63 engine, D50 Engine Mounts, downpipe, water pipes, intercooler pipes, wiring harness.

I'm still figuring out the price on this. Quantity Available: 1. Located in Baltimore. Can ship where ever you want it. Can deliver it to places within a reasonable distance or at meets or drift events in the MD, PA, VA, NJ area.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Sorry for dragging my feet on the prices. I looked over my old records (on my old website) and came up with a list of prices

Part - Original Price - Current Price
Driveshaft - $32.13 - $30
Power Steering Lines - $40 - Free
Clutch - $356 - $200
Flywheel (Bearing) - $10 - Free
Transmission + Starion Parts - $175+ - $100
Wilwood Slave - $65 - $60

Total - $390

I'd prefer to sell this all together as I know it all works together and I think that it would make someone's swap that much easier.

Orlando... UPS freight wants... $380.. haha.

UPS ground is $107 but I'm going to round up to cover packaging and my travel to drop it off. Probably like $130.

If you think you can do any better please tell me where.

you should try 'roadway trucking' or 'yellow frieght ' truck lines

call them up and when they ask you what you are shipping tell them it is ' rebuildable cores' that way it will be the cheapest rate

smog wrote:actually roadway is probably the most expensive carrier. I use to work for them. Yellow usually has better pricing also. USF would probably be your best bet for shipping as they are usually a bit cheaper than the 2 above.

Another cheap way is foward air, but then you'd need to be near a airport and the poerspon receiving would have to pickup from the airport, but its damn cheap!
thats a pretty good idea DJ do you live near an airport? because there is 2 airports that i can get to. maybe you can call them Foward Air (800)726-6654

I'm close enough to BWI so that may work. I will not be able to do much on this for a few weeks due to this super important class I'm taking along with some other things that are going on.

Most likely I will have more time starting on the 25th of this month. Sorry for any delay, but my mom, school and getting this car on track for the 23rd come first.

I would like to hear a little more about the clutch just for my own reference. Did south bend make that as a custom setup for you? Naturally I don't see "Mightymax clutch" as an option on their site. :) Got anymore info? What did you pay for it, if you don't mind me asking?

I did request they use this spline with the 225mm disk. Might be the same clutch disk as an earlier 225mm Starion clutch.
