When it all goes wrong for me

Post by carguyf545 »

well, first off i hate working on cars, cause to seems like no matter what you do, it never comes out right, there is always something that is fucked up.

well i was working on my car yesterday, i pulled it into the shop and was warming it up. i was going to hook up the check engine light to see if it was throwing a code. there was a wierd noise, like a idoler pully bearing going bad. the noise would come and go from the first time i started the motor. well it got louder and more constant. it started to sound like a KNOCK. sure as shit i spun the #3 rod bearing. so it looks like i can just put a new bearing in and everything will be ok. but i cant start on it for 3 weeks. raceing starts next week, so i am going to drive an old car.

im going to pull the motor and take it all apart and check everything. twice. so maybe this time it will run, and stay running.

I just got your PM. That sucks balls. WTF is with the luck around here?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

at least it wont cost much, the worst is crank and bearings, $220, i did that once cause of a thrust bearing failure. i have had the worst luck with this motor.

when i started. new valves and gind. when i went to put the head on the crank moved like .25 inch, thrust bearing.(never thought about checking it cause the block looked new and the car it came out of had 320,000 miles with the tranny in the back seat,
after the intall of the new crank i went to put the head on. that is when i found out i had bad lifters. had to get 16 new ones.

i have like 700 bucks into my stock cheap motor. lets just hope that all i need is a new bearing.

on a good note it makes 240 psi. of compression. and when i turned it around in the driveway it had no problem tearing it up. i gave it a little gas at a roleing idol, and it just tore up the drive way. all of my other 4 cylinders wont even come close to that.

i know all of that means nothing and the motor will make great power, but damn it, that is, FUCK i wanted to drive it, just once down the road. well i will next month.

sorry i did not update. i got it tore part and put back together. it only cost some bearings. the dumbass who put it together put a bearings in wrong. so i got it fixed and made it to the race last sunday.

I started in 13 out of 15. about lap 5 i was in second. about lap 9 i blew a hose and did not know it. about 4 laps later i noticed something was wrong when the temp gauge dropped, so i pulled off with 1.5 laps left. well the pictures says it all.

i have no idea how hot it got, but neverless it blew the head gasget. so the head is at the machine shop and i will put it back together this weekend and we are racing on the 7 of april.

the motor still wants more fuel. about 6300 rpm it falls on its face. for a n/a motor it has mad low end power. i cant wait to see what happens when it gets more fuel.
