Planned Setup :)

Post by ZedYakuza »

Alright, i've spent almost a month mulling over what setup i want. I have a 84 toyota SR5 (carb, RWD). I want to do a 4G63, with the R154. Figure on finding a small fuel cell and running new lines. I have a donor car lined up, a 91 6bolt FWD. The SR5 is mostly gutted, wieghs in at just a hair above 2000 pounds with current drivetrain. The old owner has upgraded the front brakes to dual pistons from a RX7. This is going to be a drag car only! I figure a 14B with 110 octance + 21 psi should get me into the 12's with decent tire and LSD. Any advice or suggestions from those with more experanice than me?

yeah if your gonna spend all that time building a drag car why in the hell would you only want to run 12s? with a decent 60' and 21 psi on some 110 octane you should be able to get that car into the 10s.

Check out Project Goodwill and what they did with a FWD 14b car. 21psi is more than the 14b can handle, but if you weld the wastegate shut, it will spike to 21psi and probably settle to 18psi or so. With only 2000lbs to push down the track, you should get a better time than 12.0 at the track. If you gut the car and tub the rear, some big slicks should get you there easily. That's assuming you can drive.

lol ive pushed 22 psi with no dropping from a 14b AT ALTITUDE. they can hold 22-23 psi but thats pushing it.

thats good logic,

Get the engine in get it running, drive it ,enjoy it, and then play with the engine mods. you got p;enty of time to buy extra goodies for it that way

Yeah, i figgured on some light trimming to get the trans to fit. i'm more worried about the shifter postion than anything else. This project is still in the planning/gathing stage. I'd worried about breaking a w58, i used to have 84 supra and it would grind a bit. The r154 seems much more smooth shifting, and is known to hold the power. Any other manual tran's out there worth looking at?
