Also the car I got is running but has some mileage on it. SO Im going to rebuild it before putting it in. I do have the whole 90 model car so I should have most of the parts needed for the swap I hope.

Awesome. Do you need anything to get started? Dont worry about asking questions. We'll just give you links not shit.

If I were you I'd do the swap before I rebuilt it. It will just complicate the trouble shooting. If its running, put it in and see if it runs the same. Then do a rebuild.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Thats what I thought. I need to get it in and drivable then I can always pull it and rebuild.

I have alot of questions, but am trying to research first. Oh well here ya go.

As for the D50 tranny, I can use my 87 quest internals and just swap em out? My 87 tranny only has 51K miles on it.

If I go with the D50 tranny, Do I use a AWD Clutch and flywheel? Or can I use the 5spd flywheel on the 63T?

When using that tranny will the driveshaft have to be cut and extended? No biggie if so. I should be bringing home the GST this Friday.

you can use either flywheel but you need the AWD clutch. Dont try to swap the internals.. plus I think pre 88 internals are pretty much the same anyways... weak. So just get a D50 tranny and put it in and dont touch it. If you want to develop another transmission then do that, but get it running first and you'll be much happier... or part out the 1G block and build up a wideblock 2.4 or something, use your 87 tranny and swap over the 2.0s misc items.

I just got another GSX .. an auto though.. for $50 so I'll probably start tossing things to gether here soon too.

As for the driveshaft... you can get away with not modifying it. Just try some things that I didnt with the water outlet housing. Basically get a big hammer and make some room.. or make something trick like 89onaquest or whatever his name is. Or get in touch with Dave Burscher and buy one of his little water outlet things.

Thanks alot, I dont mind the big hammer mod at all. I read about that in one of your post. What about motormounts? do I get some D50 mounts and make adaptor plates? I can get the specs from 89onaquest if so.

Ill be in a few JYs today checking on a tranny..

the cool thing about the hammer mod is that you dont need the adapter plates... They only moved the motor forward so you could clear the firewall... it also elminates any driveshaft mods.

If you do go with the D50 mounts can you measure them and stuff for us? Also can you see how far down your sump sits below your crossmember... I can imagine it being pretty low, my drain plug is low now and my motor mounts sit on the 1/2" thick or so adapter plates.

Ill do some measuring on it when I get started. I did find a 2.4L 4g64 Mighty Max in a Junkyard with a 5spd. I guess this isnt the one. Im looking for a D50 tranny locally right now.

Should have the GST ready to take apart in another week. I got to get this conversion done before Jan. So Ill be working in the cold here in arkansas.

I am planning on making whatever mods to the firewall so I dont have to move the engine forward any. I dont want to have to mess with the drivetrain too much.

I got someone getting a tranny for me, which MM,D50 tranny do I need for sure? Which motor is going to be the same as my 90 GST pattern?
