Here is a site I think Matt found first. It has pictures of lots of stuff but what I'm really getting a boner over is all the '80s F1 turbo engine pictures.

Very Cool Race Engine Site

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
The original gurney eagle was restored by a friend of mines shop here in Reno (the same car you can see in the movie Grand Prix). I think the motor was a V16
. In the lobby they have a working turbo Al Unser car with a very big turbo on it. If any of you clowns are interested I can post some crazy pics if you guys are into the whole vintage road race stuff.

You may be right. I did see it apart and on the dyno and it looked like a V16 to me, but I will snap a shot of it next time I am there to make sure we are talking about the same car (long blue tube looking thing). I heard the story about how they developed it by making 1 Cylinder motors at first to optimise the design. They had to do that because of budget before they made the big motor, as related to me anyways. Pretty cool car actually, definatly has its own sound.Old Colt wrote:That engine is an H16.I think the motor was a V16
The owner of the place has a pretty bad ass Lola with a 500 hp 3 litre cosworth V8. He's taken it to the vintage 24 hrs of lemans a couple of times, and usually does very well with it.
I took some hot laps in a 58 (?) D type jag (inline 6 cylinder with suprising power) around a course up here with him and he scared the crap out of me. You road racers are nuts
