dsm evo questions
The gods have smiled upon me(money) and I have a chance to aquire a front clip from an evolution. Ditch the idea about the carbs from a gsxr. Is the harness from a jdm differ from the evo we get stateside? Understandably the ecu has diffrent programming (octane) from the stateside model is there enough info or a source to get a manual that is not in japanese. The evo clip is a 99 model.

Which EVO? If you're getting a front clip, you will likely get the harness and ECU uncut. Any EVO 1-3 is basically the same as the DSM. After that, you're kinda on your own until the EVO 7/8. I don't have much info on any of that. I'm pretty sure the EVO 7 is the same as the USDM EVO 8. The EVO 8 motor is also a reverse rotating motor. Meaning it won't work with any conventional tranny. (as far as I know)

The Evo 4G63 is NOT reverse rotating. Any year. That's silly.
The pre 93 would likely be a 6 bolt and identical to US market DSMs and Galant VR4s other than the injectors, ECU, and turbo. Those things might be bigger than a DSM setup, but still too small for someone building a serious engine.
Remember, modern turbos spool so fast that I wouldnt go for anything smaller than my HX35. Spend that money on a built 2.4L wideblock with supporting mods.

The IV through IX LACKED the countershaft that was present on the earlier engines. It was a design change to simplify, reduce costs, improve reliability.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

A 93 EVO should be an EVO 3 which is almost exactly like the 6-bolt DSM. I think the pistons are 8.7:1, the exhaust manifold flows better and I think there may be some differences in the intake manifold.
The EVO 4-9 will rotate (when placed in the same direction as the DSM motor) in the opposite direction. This is due to the fact that those motor's timing side is on the passenger side of the car. Making things like the intake and exhuast opposite as well. If you look at the timing side of the 4-9 EVOs you will see the oil pump is on the rear side just like the DSM. It is basically a mirror of the DSM. That's what I mean by reverse rotating. Both motors do not rotate in a clockwise direction. (to my knowledge)

ok it spins in the same direction but the accesories would be on the opposite side? In a rwd swap the intake would be on the passenger side and exhaust on the driver. The motor would be going in a mm/d-50, which means Ill be using the trans from the pick up. This would mean that Id prob have ta use the accesories that are on the truck already(a/c.p/s and other) Am I correct? or gettin this wrong

EVO Motors: The valve covers of the EVO 1-3 motors will be a kind of titanium color. They are the same as a US 2G motor with nothing fancy. They have the smaller 2G style intake ports, a small runner intake manifold with a larger plenum and a larger throttle body than a 2G motor. Still they are hard to find. Many are from other 4G63 powered cars and can have small 13G sized turbos. They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolt to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission 2G Eclipse style. Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor.
