I'm rx7 guy, I build rotary motors. I'm also 240 guy, I go to drift track and I love nissan 4 bangers, I also like toyota 4 bangers. I also have little ae86 project going on.
I was looking for a while for a 4 banger to swap into rx7. for longest time I was thinking about mazda FE3. but the exhaust is on the other side, it's rare motor, non turbo, very little support.
then I came across 4g64 wideblock+mazda type r tranny combo...
My plan is to built 93-95 FD3S with 4g64/63 head, make more power than stock 13btt, get better gas mileage, be able to drive on street.
I'm tottaly tired of my fd getting 12mpg and having mad engine problems $$$.
my plan is:
1. swap 4g64 sohc complete motor into FC. This proces will take long time and I'm not willing to have FD down for long time. I'm using FC because I have one sittng in backyard right now, I want to work out all details as far as mounting the engine, and making it run good on stock truck ECU or megasquirt.
2. swap the 4g63 head. I searched little and I think I need custom pistons.
I would really like to do nonturbo 2.4 block. maybe 180rwhp with conservative tune/some mods. I'm expecting engine to have plenty of low end so when I open up the head I make 200rwhp.
3.when I have the NA version running good in FC, making power and I'll like it, I will know at that time, if the engine has potential to be turbocharged and whole combo swapped into FD.
I'm total noob when it comes to mitsubishi. I know there are few models of 4g63/64.
first i need to find what block from waht model I should start with. as far as I know I need to use wide block
at projectzerog.com i read about 86-89 mighty max auto g63 b
also 88-92 4g64
so these are my only 2 options? what's the diffrence when it comes to 4g63 head, pistons?
what is the advantage of using 86-89 mighty max auto g63 b?
what about heads, I see they have cam pos sensor at rwd firewall, can I just block it of run sensor of crank so I dont have to cut firewall?
I appriciate any input. so far I found only 1 guy did this, but he sold the engine before he got it running, the engine was sitting beatifully in the FC, I never saw details of firewall, etc, but looked nice.

no, but you could have one made.
Why not do a 2.1L hybrid. Show those RX7 guys what reving really means
.
You could totally run a crank trigger. I'm not sure why you want to spread this out in steps. All of the trouble is in the plumbing which differs from SOHC to DOHC anyways.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
4g63/4 FD has never been done. not my knowledge. If mine will the the first one, I want to have all details worked out before swapped.
FC will be test mule. i'm down to destroy the FC in the process...
I need to get little more familiar with these motors before I do anything to FD.
I'm not even sure if b2600 belhousing bolts up to FD tranny... it's same as t2 so, it should be no problem....
yes I'd love 2.1 stroker, even NA, but I understand it's not gonna happen without droppin a $1k for pistons and conrods or can I use some stockers?
ok, so to use 4g63 head on 4g64, is there any way of using stock pistons?
what is the difference between 4g63 head and 4g63t head?
what is the advantage if using 4g63 out of auto mighty max? I'm thinking about head fitment and piston selection.
....rear pickup, custom it is, where do I look for one?
is 8v truck head total garbage?
I totally don't want to run hose from firewall to radiator!!! reminds me weak ass ae86 20v installs. what is the best way around this?
This is all big project, I will not modify (for power) nor spend big amounts of money before I see potential of this engine! I have full blown 240sx drift car that's my primary money pit and car needs to be ready to rumble any day. I'm trying to make FD my primary drift car but with 13btt costing me $$$ every now and then, I'm affraid that making FD my primary drift car wont be $$$possible unless I find motor that will be at least as durable as KA24DE.

No, the 2.1L stuff uses a longer rod. What's so bad about $1000 for pistons and rods?yes I'd love 2.1 stroker, even NA, but I understand it's not gonna happen without droppin a $1k for pistons and conrods or can I use some stockers?
You might be able to. The compression will be quite high though. You might want to consider going with Forged pistons when you do your DOHC head.ok, so to use 4g63 head on 4g64, is there any way of using stock pistons?
Nothing that I have foundwhat is the difference between 4g63 head and 4g63t head?
The only benefit would be that the bellhousing will be a wideblock (in most cases)what is the advantage if using 4g63 out of auto mighty max? I'm thinking about head fitment and piston selection.

I've never heard of one from the factory, but there are several guys on this site that have made their own pans in the past.
You can modify anything to make power, the 16V head will just do it more efficiently than an 8V head, plus that head has lots of aftermarket support and have proven itself coming up on 20 years.is 8v truck head total garbage?
Some people have been experimenting with slightly modified truck water pumps for the inlet and removing a freeze plug on the front of the head to use as a water outlet.I totally don't want to run hose from firewall to radiator!!! reminds me weak ass ae86 20v installs. what is the best way around this?
Any engine will require money and all will become more unreliable the more you do to them. If you want to proof what this engine can do there are dozens of DSM sites around to do some research and many people running sub 12 second daily drivers. This is all big project, I will not modify (for power) nor spend big amounts of money before I see potential of this engine! Yeah, to reference what DJ said, my own daily driver 2G Eclipse runs 11.9x with no internal mods except for cams (still running the original factory head gasket), and on a beat small 16g. Tons of potential in this engine, and in a lighter FD chassis, would probably be even faster than my car.DJpowerHaus wrote:If you want to proof what this engine can do there are dozens of DSM sites around to do some research and many people running sub 12 second daily drivers.
