HELP 4G63 SWAP TRANNY INFO NEEDED!!!!!!
Im a dsm guy and i bought a starion to make into a track car. I love the all wheel drive. I just want a rear wheel drive to. go hang with at the track or drifting. I read the info on here about how to do it but it was confusing and i got lost in the almost to much technical side. I want to put the block in and either know how to make or buy the stuff to get a trans to fit. i would love to use the rx7 trans i know thier bullit proof budies got one and its nuts. please help with any thing i cna do or need to know on how to do this. A step by step would be sweet on what to get and do. I can do the whole other setup and swap but this is throwing me. IF IT WAS A SNAKE IT WOULD HAVE BITTEN ME! please help thanks.

Unless you want to find a wideblock and rebuild the engine, you're best bet is to go with one of Bill Hincher's W58 bellhousing adapters. If you use this you'll need to make a transmission crossmember, driveshaft, possibly do shifter modifications.
If that seems like too much work, you could use a D50 transmission. Other than the bellhousing, it is basically the same as a Starion transmission if you swap the tail housings. You can also bolt it up and use yoru stock driveshaft. You'll need to fab up some sort of a hydraulic conversion for its cable clutch. Examples are on my site in the tranmission section. You dont need to move the engine forward if you do the appropriate modifications for the water outlet on the back of the head (such as move it to the front).

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

The DSM 4G63 is NOT a wideblock
to repeat in a differnet way: The DSM 4G63 is a narrowblock.
The adapter bellhousings are around $400 then you need a W58. Driveshaft will be around $200, but you could do it cheaper if you were crafty.
It might be a little more expensive but it pays for itself around the time the 2nd D50 transmission that breaks.

The R154 is the mk3 trans and you can find it bolted to a 7mgte. Its built proof me and some buddies run them on 1J swaps with single turbos making big power and havent had any problems. minor scratching between gears in hard driving, if you find a bell housing that will bolt up to a 4g63 narrow let me know!
