Unusual connector found in the Starion PLEASE HELP!!!

Post by mxphotog »

I found this unusual connector where i thought i would find the infamous B38 connector. Why is mine different??? it is the only connector that connects the engine wiring harness with the chassis wiring harness. So i dont know where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah.. that is different looking. What year did it come from?

The easiest way to tell exactly what each wire does is to take the stock engine harness and trace from that plug to where it goes on the engine harness. Usually it'll lead to the ECU or the Main Relay. The pin-outs for both these parts are available somewhere on this site. This procedure should tell you exactly what each pin does.

Post whatever you find and I'll add it to the site (I'm slowly gearing up for updates).

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

The car is a 1987, im going to double check to make sure that is right. Also i found on the site where the pinouts are but only for the dsm ecu, i dont see them for the starion ecu. It looks like they are supposed to be with it but i think the image doesnt work or something. Do you know where i might be able to find the pinouts elsewhere??

I guess I'll have to put that up soon. Try posting on SQC for the info in the mean time.

I've updated the page that you were looking for.
http://projectzerog.com/wiring_info.shtml

I'm going to color code it eventually, but it should still be usable in the mean time. I'll put that 87 B-38 info up as soon as you get it to me.

Ok, so ive done some research and some testing, and this appears to be the correct pinouts for the unusual B38 connector

Image

THE B-38 HARNESS

STARION CHASSIS HARNESS SIDE

1 ) NONE
2 ) COIL + (IGNITION SWITCH ON)
3 ) BATTERY + (CONSTANT)
4 ) GROUND
5 ) OIL PRESSURE SIGNAL
6 ) DIAGNOSTICS
7 ) STARTER SIGNAL
8 ) TEMP SIGNAL
9 ) BOOST SIGNAL
10 ) VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR

Let me know if you think this isnt right. Thanks.

Can you give me a straight on shot of the connector so I can add it to the page. Something like this:

Now that I think about it. I have a hacked up '86 harness in one of my cars that has that plug I think... or maybe its differnet yet. I'll check tomorrow.
