Or at least tape it off and paint it! Use some engine enamel... get some rubber gloves or something and rub the wet paint into the casting. This REALLY helps paint stick to cast iron. RUB IT IN!
Put a light on it to heat it up (especially if its black) and it'll self level out and will look amazing. My block (pictured above.. at the very top) looked worse than yours at one point.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
