yet another new guy to this site with some swap questions.

Post by '86 starion »

just picked up a non-running starion a few weeks ago and dont know what route to take. i've found a few good sites already pertaining to this car(including this one) but am unsure of what is more cost effective. this is where i need help. is it more cost effective to build on my existing G54B engine to make it push out 500+ streetable horsepower or swap in a 4G63 and build on that? with my original engine, all i have to do is worry about the added costs for high horsepower parts but with the swap, i have to worry about finding an engine and worry about high horsepower parts plus all the mods for the swap. someone please shed some light on this. thanks.

Read everything on the main site. This should cover just about everything you need to know. The other 50% is the little stuff you will just need to make the call on how to do. There are 100 ways to do this sort of thing. Each thing has its benefits and also its pitfalls. For this reason there will never be a step by step how to. If you want a step by step swap, get a 240SX and put an SR in it.

I recommend putting together a spread sheet to figure out what you think you will need. You'd be suprised how 500hp goals can into $10,000 headaches. Post it and we can give you our opinions.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Hi Smog, my G54b didnt even like the 75kw stock carby set up it cracked right along the welsh plug line. (joining all three plugs) common fault apparently as from what i have heard from engine builders and salvage yards. Something to do with harmonics from the balance shafts, i went for the 4G63 coversion and i will never look back the vr4 with a little bit of upgrade are awsome!!
