oil cooler?

Post by blue_crush »

i bought the oil filter housing relocation from buschur, and now im trying to find a good source to runn an oil cooler. the port on the housing is what i was gunna use to run my oil pressure gauge. the port on the back of the head is a poor source ( so i have been told ) so........... any advice?

also i was wanting to know what aluminum radiator i should go with, i noticed some people were running aluminum rads with huge AN fittings, alittle help with that would be great. :x

if your going rwd you dont need a relocation kit or a cooler. the dsms had oil coolers because the filter was right next to the downpipe. obviously with rwd thats not the case.

i got the relocation housing to open up that side of the motor so the turbo could breathe easier. its already bought and paid for so i might as well use it. got any ideas? I was just gunna run a line from the head to the cooler and back into the turbo, but word is that the head source isnt the greatest.

anyone wana see pics of what im doin here?

Yeah.. I'm going to need to see pics. You've totally confused me.

I know there are 3 oil filter housings you can bolt to these motors as well as any number of aftermarket oil cooler sandwich adapters. I'd be happy to discuss the ins and outs (pun intended) of an oil cooler on these motors if you could first clarify what you are doing.

As for radiators.. look for AFCO radiators on ebay. for under $200 you can get a really nice radiator that with a little modification will fit great into a Starion front end. Best to stay away from the ones with the -20 AN fittings. The only reason I say this is that its not cheap once you start working with fittings of this size. Keep the total width below 26" though or you'll be running into frame rails. Also, Chevy style radiators have the ins and outs on the correct corners.

For $189 (shipped) I got this generic radiator: Image http://www.secureperformanceorder.com/a ... uctID=2517

Its a little tall and needed to be tilted back to clear the hood. Its conservatively narrow just in case I bend the frame a little, but still rests on the tension rod brackets. They have a wide selection so go there and look around.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

yeah definitely stay away from the -20 fittings. my -16 cost me upwards of $25 apiece. i figure i have several hundred dollars in fittings & hose on the car.

What you need to track down is a 1990 / Galant VR4 / Evo1-3 oil filter housing. It uses the regular DSM oil filter location but without a water cooled sandwich. It insead has 2 ports on the front for attaching an oil cooler. The thread pitch is 16mm x 1.5 if you were curious ;-).

A drag car wont necessarily need an oil cooler as much as say a street car, road race and especially a drift car. Depends on how you use it. If you require no oil cooler than I'd also go with the RWD setup that Burschur sells (or you can find on any Sirius engine'd truck.

hey peregrine, how long did it take buschur to send you your stuff--flywheel, stall converter? it took them 4 to 5 weeks on the flywheel, and now its been over 2 weeks on the stall converter.

also on a more serious note: i am thinking about going with a B&M automatic fluid, or redline. let me know what you think.

they have that shit custom built so yeah it takes a while. be patient and youll be happy in the end. if i were you i would just use the cheap napa type ATF. thats what i use and thats what all my muscle car friends use. b&m shit is the same stuff with dye in it. no bullshit.
