Newbie Trannies?

Post by jeffball610 »

Okay you guys keep referring to the RX7/B2600 tranny. I searched high and low and no one has a name for this unit. Also, no one has hard numbers for power holding. Does it bolt up to the stock bellhousing pattern? If so, wide or narrow blocks? And if it does bolt straight up, I'm pissed. i just bought a Toyota R154 from an MKIII Supra Turbo. Holding capacity is around 450ft lbs, but the bellhousings are nothing alike. I'm Using a stock DSM AWD bellhousing and adaptor plate. The R154 input shaft is about what I believe the Starion unit is, but it's alot longer than the DSM unit. Fortunately the R154 has a plate that the input shaft rides in and the throwout bearing fits over, so that should be good news. As far as anything else, I have no clue. I'm just getting into this project and have WAY too much work to do. This is a 4G64/63 head in a 72 Datsun 510 4dr. Looking for 400+hp and less than 2500lb chasis. Fill me in on what everyone has learned.

Here's some info on the R154. I'll find the site that gave me the idea to use the Toyota tranny. Guy used a Toyota W58 to a 4G63 using aluminum adaptor plates.

Here's the link to the W58 adaptor plate. Good guy and very helpful in my quest for knowledge.

OMG.. sorry but somehow I didnt have any pages linking to this page:
http://www.projectzerog.com/rx7transmissions.shtml

I've updated the transmission page to point to this now. Sorry it was MIA for so long. I should have some updates for it once my driveshaft gets back from A1 Driveshaft in Baltimore.

I'm sure you saw this thread. I really hope you can find it in there. If not you need to open your eyes or learn to read :-D

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
