That sucks. I am the worst welder ever. I burn holes in everything.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Make sure you have the power connections on the right polaritys, mine used to weld like that even with gas, out door welding just doudle the gas flow. practice on a bit of scrap first!!!

Here's my attempt, I had to take it to a welder to connect the pipes to the flange, hopefully it will be ready tomorrow. At the time, I just brazed the flange from the inside in a few spots. I have a small brazing kit at home that used to join the pipes and attach the bung, someday I'll get a welder and take some classes. Hopefully this will hold together.

I dont think the brazing is going to like the heat the turbo is going to put into that pipe! the pipe will be as hot as what the brazing torch could get it to RED hot. so just keep an eye on the bronze running. where the bronze is a bit lumpy (rough) it needs a bit more heat from the torch to smooth it out and get it to flow a bit further from the dump pipe to the down pipe and end up smooth.

even uglier

I decided to put in a new 02 sensor as part of my fix for idle surge (turns out I did not need to any way)
When I took out my old one, the bung was stripped. i think I warped it from too much heat when welding it in. The sensor went in with lots of resistance originally.

So I grinded out the trashed threads.

And welded in the new sensor.

Comments?

looks like it'll work. Will probably outlive the downpipe.

I think the brass will be okay. It was at the point of melting the steel when I brazed, so it should be in there tight. I'll still keep an eye on it. I have an EGT, so if I ever see it around up around 1800 F, I'll know to watch out for part of my exhaust and other parts in the rear view mirror.

Sorry i didnt mean that it was going to melt, you will find it will crack really easy. the tip of an oxy/ acet' is up to about 5000 degrees f, that why they melt steel, its more the dissimilar metals that will be the problem.
