87 Dakota 4g Swap

Post by 4g63 mopar »

So the journey begins.

Background:

Hello everyone i have been a fan of the 4g engine since i purchased my 93 Talon about 5 yrs ago, i had a blast with my 6bolt/4bolt 16g powered awd monster but that was short lived because a year later i started tearing the car apart in search of more power. The project continued to grow and my wallet continued to shrink but i was having fun so zero shits were given. The power plant was a simple .20 over eagle/Wiseco combo with reground cams and head work with the addition of a JMFab SHIM w/ S90 TB and FP cast mani with a FP3065 BB Turbo. When i purchased the talon it was a 5spd car but while it was being disassembled i noticed a TCM in car and realized i had what used to be a factory auto car so at that point i put the brakes on the build and started hunting for auto parts to bring it back to its former self. The hunting continues to this day...

Present:

So rather then let my 2yr old built motor sit and continue collecting dust i have decided to swap it into my mint 87 2wd auto V6 Dakota with less than 80k original miles. (Photos of Dakota to follow soon).

Love it man!! I just sold also a mint '86 Ram50 sport with 51K on it to a kid who doesn't/didn't know much of working on cars. (think he got frustrated and sold it :(

And another buddy of mine has a '89 Shelby Dakota, 5.2, 5spd, 2wd but it's RED..
I can't stand red.. He only wants 1200 for it but it's kinda rough.

What kind of trans are you going with?
Auto or manual?
