1994 mm 2.4 2wd oil weight question

I currently run royal purple 10w30 and was wanting to move to a thicker oil and also switch to conventional instead of synthetic. I live in az so would 20w50 be good? Any insight would be appreciated thanks!

Bump. I'm curious also. 20w50 is too thick.

Well I went for it, I switched to castrol high mileage 20w50 and it only got worse so I took the valve cover off and found one lifter for sure was messed up. I just replaced all of them just to be sure. Now it is silent compared to what it was, $12 something for the valve cover and $11 something a piece for all 8 lifters and it's all fixed. Now my question is do I switch back to the thinner oil?
