A number of years ago I purchased a JDM 4g63t to put into a Triumph Spitfire that I have but life always seems to get in the way and the two pieces still sit across the shop from each other.
I am hearing some unsavory sounds from under the hood of my commuter car and I find myself wondering if I couldn't put that spare motor into my hyundai. A cursory search on the google suggests to me that in some model years of the elantra, this is a relatively easy thing to do, at least when compared to the Spitfire (which has serious clearance issues).
Since this is the place to go to for true accurate knowledge on this engine and it's myriad swaps and mods, I have come back to ask: What can I do to swap a 4g63t into my fourth generation Elantra in place of the 2.0l beta that it now has? Or is it mission impossible?
Thanks for reading and hopefully for answering me with good news.
Can I put my 4g63t into a 2008 Elantra

It's not mission impossible but it was much easier in the 1st gen élantra. I did a non turbo 4g63 swap years ago on mine and it was a fun little car. I know the beta engine is based off the 4g series motors and are known to like boosting. You can find info about that if you search. You can use the 4g63t motor in there but you will be fabricating more and you would have to get the wiring done properly for it to work right but anything is possible with time and money
I'm alright with stand alone wiring and a 'check engine' light on the dash.
I can get a replacement Beta from ebay for under $1000 so it seems like that might be the lazy way to go.
I've found quite a bit about turbo-ing the beta but I was really hoping for a magical way to replace my engine with a major increase in power all in a weekend with over the counter parts.
Dare to dream.
