motor mount issue 4g64 in Conquest

Post by slowquest »

I've got a 91 2.4 block and trying to get the 89 Conquest mounts on it. The bolt holes don't line up. The holes on the mount are about a half inch further apart than the bosses on the block. Is this common, or do I have an oddball here?

Bill, would you be willing to build a set of mounts that would sit the engine in the stock location? I've considered doing the 2 inch forward thing, but really want it set back.

yeah, I can set that back, its not a problem

the crank C/L is 1 inch towards the drvers side over the G54b ( the center of the two motors aint the same)

so, even though you can force the passenger G54b mount into the passenger side, the whole engine is moved towards the drivers side too far

because the 4G63 includes the low mounted balance shaft housing on the drivers side of the engine, the overall width of the engine combined with the two passenger mounts is still too long

so when you try to get the drivers side in, it wont fit the OEM locations

I would be interested in a set of mounts myself and also want it in the stock location. I'm short and moving the engine forward would move the shifter too far forward to be comfortable. Moving it away from the drivers side sounds good though.

My "idea" would be mounts for stock location, and a wideblock T56 bell....

but I can wait until you get to it Bill, I know you've got to be overwhelmed

My main concern at this point is that I've got an oddball block of some sort. If Conquest mounts fit every other 4g64 out there but mine, then your mounts wouldn't fit either.

Can anyone get measurements off their block for me? I'll get measurements off mine and post some pics later.

The issue with mine is that the bolt holes don't line up with the mount.

3 1/8th" on the mount

3" on the block

I don't remember anyone ever mentioning that the mount had to be slotted or anything like that.

Kane, the mount I have pictured is supposed to be the correct one. The other one is alot bigger, it comes nowhere close to fitting.

I don't have the mounts off the truck. I got this out of a junkyard years ago.

I've verified this in CAPS/ASA and its indeed 2 right mounts

note: the highlighted numbers are PNC numbers. The part number is MD041030

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

The Starion part numbers according to the 88 catalog on Starquestgarage.com are MD01 6233 for the right side, and MD01 2775 for the left.

The Mighty Max part numbers are MD02 0233 for the right side, and MD02 0291 for the left.

These are both for the 2.6 G54B.

I can't find the rubber mounts in the catalog.

These are the stock Starion G54B mounts, drivers side on the left, passenger side on the right.

Image

The passenger side mount is WAY too big to bolt up to my 4G64 block. The drivers side mount is close, but is about an 1/8th inch off.

Passenger side of Starion G54B block

Image

You can see that the mount bolt holes are about 4 1/2 inches apart.

This is the 4G64 block, the mount holes are exactly 3 inches apart

Image

I just need to know what the distance is between the mount bolt holes on everyone elses 4G64/4G63 blocks. If it's 3 inches like mine is, then Starion brackets DO NOT WORK. I've got 4 sets of Starion brackets here, and every single set is exactly the same.

STOP THE PRESSES!

So I went through my parts and found that you can use the right bracket, but you need to drill the top hole. The right Starion bracket IS NOT the same as the MightyMax brackets.

Image
From right to left: Starion Left, Starion right, MightyMax

Image
The Starion's left bracket will not work, but as you can see in the photo, the Starion's right bracket nearly matches the MightyMax bracket, but the top hole is higher up on it. You can use it on a 4G6x, but you will need to drill the top hole lower down.

My advice: spend $15 for the mightmax bracket.

So why does CAPS/ASA say that its the right bracket is same part number between the 2.6 and 2.4? No clue! Was the 2.6 in the truck different from the Starion?

Does anyone know what the part numbers are for the JDM/Aussie 2.0L Starion brackets?

DJ, I really appreciate everything you've done for the community here. Glad this issue is settled.

I've been trying to get these brackets from local Dodge dealers as they list price them at $8.25, versus $24ish from Mitsubishi dealers. EVERY Dodge dealer I've went to has said that they are No Longer Available (NLA). The 2 local Mitsubishi dealers, one said they were NLA, the other said I would have to pay for them, they would TRY to order them, to see if they would happen to be "in a warehouse somewhere, but not in the system" BUT, my $50ish dollars would be non-refundable if they weren't.....WTF?!?!

And I used to work at this dealership!! No one left in parts from when I was there though.....

I've found a few places online that list them, and ordered from one. Hopefully they are able to get them.

Where has everyone else gotten them from? Or do most people just keep the stock D50 mounts when they get the engine? I probably have them laying around somewhere, but I bought this engine like 6 years ago, No idea where they are now...lol

I got mine and numerous other parts through...
RockAuto

This is the one place where I can still get most of the parts I need for my two Colt Galants.

Well, just got an email saying that they are no longer available.

When I go to RockAuto's website, and type in that part number, it doesn't come up. Can you send me a direct link?

I wouldn't have counted on that japanese part number matching anything on rockauto's site.

AH, I see. I don't need the rubber part of the mount, I need the metal bracket that actually bolts to the side of the engine. There's a bunch of pics earlier in the thread.

 I see what you mean now, i was overthinking it too much lol, sorry about that, I realized I don't actually have those brackets either. As far as part numbers go MD020233 is the old number for the right side and was superseded by MD016233, that's why you have two different numbers, one old and one new for the G54B.

Red indicates the new number.
Image

Turned up MD041030 is also in the MMNA ASA as well you just have to specify 2.0/2.4 instead of 2.6.

I'm just going to try Mitsubishiparts.net (Local dealership), I've had success there for other hard to find parts for my G52B and when I had my Galant VR4.

The brackets are still available through Mitsubishi! :D. Mine arrived today, took about two weeks of waiting, but well worth it. $33 total for both sides.
