Building a 4G64 wide block w/ 2G turbo setup 89 Mits Van

Post by psychotech »

New to the forum...I have had it with my 1989 Mitsubishi van blowing heads and head gaskets plus the tranny just went out.

I picked up a extra 4G64 from a Mighty Max PU and a 2G DOHC head, turbo, manifolds etc. And I just pulled the harness, and computer (ECU), all sensors, and oil pump cover from a 1998 AWD Talon.

I have read a LOT and my head is going to explode...I have been a GM mechanic and don't hold that against me now I am retired and love to build projects.

Which would be better the 1998 electronics or 1G or early 2G (also have the ECM for) I have read that the 2G stuff has a different crank sensor setup and my concern is that the old 4G64 block doesn't have the accommodations for the 2G sensors...Can I just swap out the 2G sensor plugs to a 1G cam sensor?

Thanks I'll check it out...I have taken a couple of days off from thinking about the van...So I will do some more research. I also found a van exactly like mine with an EVO 3 motor in it.
