2.1L "destroker" motor (2.4L Block, 2.0L crank)?
im a little new to the 4g63 engines and I'm learning about them and need to verify some stuff
I bought an GST eclipse and from what the person who built it up says I'm thinking its a 2.1L "destroker" as stated in: http://projectzerog.com/sirius_engines.shtml
can some one clarify this, here is what i was told about the car:
" 2.4l turbo swap .its a GST with a VR4 block and a DOHC conversion "65K miles total on engine" on 12lbs boost...wiesco psitons , eagle rods. head polished. huge FMIC , greddy type s bov, 3" downpipe all the way back. can go on and on."
also is there an easy way to know if it dose have a 2.4l block? i think i see then block numbers under the header but i can't read it with the turbo and header in the way.

Yes, a 2.1L is a 4G64 block with 4G63 crank. (2.4L block/2.0L crank) There is a stamped number on the block just under the water pipe near the water pump. If it's a 2.4L block it will be stamped as 4G64.
But if the guy is saying VR4, then it's likely a 2.0L JDM or USDM Galant motor. Those were only 2.0L motors.
It sounds like a scam. Anyone with a built motor and only running 12psi isn't making any sense. And quickly looking around, I don't really see anyone making 2.1L anymore. Not sure why.

ok thats just where i found mine, and it dose say 4g64, i tried to take a photo of it but you have to look at it at just the right angle to see. now just to find out what crank it has in it. maybe after work ill start looking in to that, will probably turn it over tell i get close to the top of the stroke and stick a rod down there mark it then do the same for bottom of the stroke.lsr mike wrote:Your looking for the Block Type and Serial Number right above the dipstick.
and thank you DJpowerHaus for providing me with the strokes so i don't have to look it up =D

4g64s came in both flavors, you can find 6 bolt 4g64s in 91/92 Mitsubishi Expos.EVOMINUS wrote:If its an earlier motor(better) and he says its a destroker then the block should read 4GCS which is the 6 bolt version of the 2.4!4G64 is the 7 bolt version
G4CS is just the Hyaundai designation.
