Rear outlet concern

Post by slowquest »

I've got a truck 2.4 wideblock with a 2.0 DOHC. I used the RalliArt headgasket.

My concern is that I'm using a rear coolant outlet similiar to the stock 2.0, but I don't remember if my block has the steam holes in the front like the 2.0 block does. I've noticed a couple pics on here that show some 2.4's don't have those holes.

First, should I be concerned that my block may not have them?

Second, if I decide to go with the front outlet, should I be concerned that the head is not drilled over the rear passages?

Third, if I decide to pull the head to check, what's the chances of re-using that headgasket. It's been installed for approx 5 years (Yea, I know...) but the engine has never been started.

If its already together, I'd just put a temp sender on the front and back of the head and run two gauges (or one on an ON-OFF-ON switch) and monitor it. If you start to see problems, then worry about pulling the head.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
