newb question

Post by juniper »

hey guys, i have just bought an evo 4 motor from japan, with the intention of putting it rwd in my R32 so i will be on this site frequently. my problem is im not sure if it is a "wide" or "narrow" block, i have looked on the chart but cant find anything about evo 4 engine?
also it has a gmax twin plate, pulltype clutch on it, is there anyway i can use that with one of bill hinchers bell housings? or are they strictly push type only?
any help is appreciated, thanks.

edit : i would just measure it but the engine wont be here for 6 weeks or so.
the reason i want to know is that i have a gallant vr4 4g63t here and i was going to use it to dummy up mounts etc :)

the wide and narrow block version of the 4G63 will not interchange with the EVO4 through 9

Bill, are you saying there are wide block, narrow block AND EVO?
Where are the differences?
My 4g64 bolt pattern looks the same as the evo pic you put up. So Jez on here that you did a bell to fit the r154 ... does that bell only fit evo and nothing else?

cheers

the first gen 4G63 was a straight forward 4 bolt system with the two lower bolts spaced at 310 mm
Image
the second gen 4G63 ( 7 bolt crank) added a 5th bolt and kept the 2 lower bolts the same
Image
the EVO 4 through 9 moved both mounting bolts higher to accomidate the passenger side axle and the 4 w drivetrain and changed the locater dowel to the upper bolt in the pattern instead of the right lower bolt as had done in the 2 previous models

the 4G64 came in two versions, the wide block and the narrow block, the narrow block is exactly the same as the narrow block 4G63 but the wide block spaced the 2 lower bolts 10mm wider

Ok I get it now Bill, That means there is a 3rd 4g64 pattern. Its the same as Evo.
Jez has posted pics for me in the other thread. These bolt patterns (my 64 and evo 8) are 100% the same as far as mounting holes and dowel positions. My block came from a mitsi spacewagon which is kind of van/mpv.
