Comparitive transmission lengths.

Post by Tank »

I am wondering if anyone has information compairing transmission lengths. I am looking to get this project started, but Its probably gonna take longer to find a wide block AND a b2600 bellhousing than I'd really like to wait.

So I found one rx-7 video on youtube where the guy was using the d-50 tranny and it has the shifter coming out of where the ash tray used to go. I don't want my shit looking retarded.

I did find a few lengths for the Toyota w5x transmissions that range from 19 to 21.5" just wondering anyone has measured a RX7 T-II tranmission from the front face to shifter. I am looking to get a billhousing but I would like to use the tranmission that puts the shifter closest to the stock hole on the rx-7.

I could deal with fabricating a center console. Or just not having one. But I can't deal with the shifter being halfway inside the dashboard.

I can measure the RX7 + B2600 Bellhousing transmission on Christmas. Can you wait that long?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Sure no problem.

Would it be possible to measure from the front face to the shifter location? I.E. with the bell housing removed. I was thinking maybe with some collaberation we could get a get a spread sheet going for the transmission dimensions.

If I end going with the toyota R transmission I will have to get it online. I could however probablly get lenths of the various w5x tranmissions that can be used with a bill housing.

Measured this last night:

33 1/2" from front of bellhousing (block) to shifter

6" from front of bellhousing to body of transmission

Hope this helps. I have more measurements jotted down. Will make a diagram later.

Check my latest post re the RX7 trans swap :D
The spiggot bearing, clutch plate are the same and the speedo cable and reverseing lights all fit without mods. The drive shaft will need to be shortened by app 100mm/4 inches with a new front yoke & rear uni joints all fitted and balanced. That cost me app $320 Aud
