my 4G64.3t build updated costs
Ok well I guess it's official. Today bought a 91 gsx eclipse. It is actually in such wonderful condition I almost feel bad about tearing into it. The only thing wrong with it is the BHG. And there is a torn couple to the front mount. I can honestly say it is in way better shape than my Quest. As soon as I get done with work tomorrow I will get pics of everything and get them linked here.
So here is the mission:
1 87 Conquest TSI $500 in needs TLC shape
1 91 GSX donor car $800 for complete running car with BHG
1 96 Mighy Max wideblock $350 for complete running engine
Set of Manley rods $305
Set of Wiseco pisons and rings $455
Rod and Main bearings $109
Complete gasket kit $130
SportMax rims $562
Complete bushing set (for suspension, trans and rear diff) $440
^got this from a member on SQC. very nice peices.
Drivers fender $117
Cheap Ebay turbo for the time being $425
Spacers for rims made from billet steel, water neck relocation and intake manifold, 5 angle valve job and shave, EGR block off $1550
Update 5-5-2011
diypnp with supporting mods and gear from diyautotune $900
spec stage 3 clutch $350
struts for front and rear $320
5 point harnesses and seats $500
Walbro 255lph fuel pump $119
I now have "everything" I need to get this all going, well minus the shop space since I moved...lol. Being as my uncle has a machine shop I should be able to get whatever I need made for me.
First I plan on working over the bottom end and building it up pretty decent. Eagle rods paired with JE .020 over pistons for the DOHC swap. Not sure if I wanna do a forged crank or not yet. Havent looked for any power specs on this particular crank. I will also have the fly wheel machined front and back. I will just have it lightened while he has it. Works pretty well on a budget. Removing the balance shaft is a must as well. The last time I left one in the belt broke 1500 miles after the build and trashed my crank. Also thinking of knife edge but will probably pass on that this time..
For the head I am planning on a set of 264 in and 272 ex. I think those numbers are right. Going off memory, been awhile. Just going to have it polished in the ports and be done. Probably go with the BC spring and titanium retainer setup. Port match the head the manifolds. Cant decide if I want to make another SMIM or convert the one I have or buy one. Not sure which route I want to go with the water flow yet.
Definetly going to do a top mount turbo. Again not sure on which mani route I want to take. Would love to do a 50 or 57 trim PTE turbo. And finish that off with the 3" out the back.
Well thats for starters. Will post pics and update my parts and price list as I go for those who might be interested. I cant wait to get this all going. And kudos to all of the rest of you who are also runnning this setup or will be soon. Its only been since the first of the month and I'm shooting for summer.
Hope it ok that I moved this. Thought it should be in the projects section.
Links to new pics. Took awhile but work has been nuts.

Well I got the dash out of the eclipse today. The engine harness is now all under the hood. It took me about three hours to get it all out of the cabin. I was by my self the whole time so it would have gone smoother with another pair of hands. But it wasnt too awefully bad.
The part I am most exited about is the computer is an eprom and it is chipped and socketed already! this will be very helpful. I will have to look up what it is programed for because the guy didnt even know what it was. Hope it is already close to what I need. The injectors look to be after market as well so it looks good.
The more i tear into this car the better the deal I got. He was ready to be rid of it and failed to mention to me that the turbo is toast. I just think the guy who built it for him wasnt very good at this. I have gone behind his so many times for the guys around here to fix his "work". But it is working out for me now lol.

So yesterday after pulling the motor and harness out of the eclipse I let the machine shop have the parts to convert to rwd...ie the intake manifold will be blocked on the back and opened on the front. I am going to have a flange made to flip the exhaust manifold upside down. Saw the Idea on here. Going to roll with it. can be seen here so credit can go where its due. http://projectzerog.com/forum/viewtopic ... ount+turbo I am going to have him make it bolt up on all the stock holes and have the flipped side holes tapped with studs for the manny to mount. Going to run a tubular piece as well.
He is going to make a front exit coolant port as well on the head. And a block off plate for the thermostat as well as the egr. No emissions here. And have a tube that routes the water from the rear of the head to the front where the thermostat will now be.
While they have the parts I am going to have him shave the fly wheel down on the back side like TEP offers for the starion. Saves money.
Also today I ordered a set of Manley rods and Wiseco piston and rings, some new rod and main bearings for the bottom end. All I am waiting for here now is the crank to come back with an a ok stamp for no cracks and what not. Then they will all go together to get balanced. And I still need to get a BS eliminator kit and some arp main bolts and head studs.
Its actually coming together alot faster than I thought. I still need to adress the interior but it has been pretty cold here and I have been trying to find a shop to rent for about three months now.

no i just ordered them on saturday. I got a tracking number from ups today so they should be on their way soon. Coming from OH and we are getting snow dumped on us right now here so it may take a little longer. I really hate having to order everything I want as there are no vendors here.
I am going to have to get some spacers figured out as well, cause as anybody who has looked for rims for a starion knows. they dont make a bolt up. oh well. never had a problem with them before so I will run um.
Also droped the bottom end off today for balancing. cant wait to get the engine together. And i had some extra dailight yesterday so I put the racing steering wheel in the car. Looks so much better that the bulky old one, with WTF radio controls on the wheel. Has to be the oldest car with that system I have seen. No pics yet but will bet some soon.

Going to be coming together alot better starting this week. I finally got a work space tonight. I got a little two car garage that my buddy doesnt use. Benn trying to get it from him for about a month now since I got this car. Should be a decent space to get it done. He even gave me a really good price and told me I could get my own door handle so I am the only one with a key. He is an electrician so he just got done redoing all of the wiring and lighting and what not with some new heaters. All i got to do now is go get an air compressor again and it will be good to go. I cant wait to get moved in this week!!!

Got the rims today. Took some pices but havent posted them yet. They are going to be sweet!!!! Still need to get some tires and going to have to figure out some bolt on spacers soon. The back tires on the stocks are really bad and wont hold any air. Found the tires I am going to run already. Just need to get them ordered. Will probably do that in the morning.
Didnt get a chance to move it yet as the weather here is really bad. Got it cleaned of today though. And a new winch setup for the trailer. Will make it alot easier doing all this by my self as it usually happens that way. Well more on the way. Watch the link up top.

Got my rims on friday. They are beautiful. Unfortunetly as with all of the quests, they dont make a rim for them. The offsets I had to settle for are +38 front and +35 rear. I gave the machinist the sizes I wanted to see on the spacers for starters and they are at the top of his list. I cant move the car without these on there. The old tires will not hold air and if I have to buy tires its not going to be for the stockers.
I also have to get the tires ordered. Kinda ran out of money...lol been buying alot of things and gave the machinist money for almost all of his labor and materials. He bought aluminum, stainless steal sheet and tubing, and some billet.
The alum. is for block off plate for thermo, and egr. Also to make the housing for new thermostat. And for converting the intake manifold to RWD
The stainless is for the exhaust manifold he is going to make for me.
And the billet is for the wheel spacers. Not going to leave these to chance with aluminum. They are going to be spaced 50mm front (i think I am way off on this one, will have to check again and call him back) and 40mm rear. They will be bolt on and awesome. We made some for my cousins enduro truck and they are way bigger with more abuse and no issues there.
When he gets done with all the flowing bits they are going to my other uncle for a port match and a nice light polish. Also god for bid it needs it a surface on the head.
I got the rotating assembly back from the engine shop. Had tho get it balanced now that the BSEK will be in play. Did a really good job polishing the crank as it will be installed with standard bearing. Cant wait to get the bottom end all together. I already have the cylinders prepped and the block is painted and waiting.
More later!

Well against all odds its seems, With rain/snow mix, two flat tires and being by my self, I got the car to the new shop today. It was almost as exciting as getting the car...lol. I started cleaning out the previous owners mess, Which by the way has filled up two thirty gallon trash bags. I dont understand how fixing a car can accumulate a mess like that. Its almost like he would just hang out in it all day or some thing.
Any ways. tomorrow after work when I get finished cleaning it out I will get some pics of the inside of it. Underneath all of the mess there is actually a nice interior, minus the pieces he took out for some odd reason and broke. They look as though they were fine before. But with the pry marks at the breaks I believe he is at fault here. Either way they will be replaced.
If I have enough time I am going to pull the engine as well and get it out of the way. It looks like it caught on fire at one point. The engine harness has been gone through pretty poorly but hidden REALLY well. All but the messed up fuel pump wire that you can see in the second pic of the car on my car domain. It also has a soot type substance all over it the engine bay. Its almost better that I decided to do this swap before ever even looking at the conditions under the hood. I just knew I couldnt get what I wanted out of that engine.

So I guess my internet carrier is having many issues with their servers. I have made some more progress. Got the interior back together. Got it up on stands and am taking apart the suspension for the new stedebani bushings. Also going to send the trans to be built. My machine shop uncle has a guy in california that will do it and I should have no issues with it EVER!. Will ad pics to my site later on today when I get home.

ell today I got parts from the machine shop finally. He is in scottsbluff ne and im in casper so he has been making trips up here for measurements and what not. Kinda time consuming but well worth the wait.
I got my billet steel wheel spacers, I know kinda heavy but with the wheels it will make up. Plus I can still slide sideways on um so I wont have to worry bout that.
Also was the flywheel, which was able to get a 20lb reduction! it is so much lighter now. And only cause I couldbt find an aftermarket one for the 7 bolt mighymax.
My head, which has been given a shave, port and polish, port match to manifolds and a five angle valve job with ss vales. also was the relocated thermostat housing, which by the way he way able to make it to look factory some how. I cant find my camera for some glorious pics but will get some up when I can
So with all this I can finally start with the assembly. I am going to run a stock clutch for now to get everything dialed in as the car came with a BNIB unit in the back. When I get to where its all tuned and the stocker wont hold it any more I will then pull the tranny to have the gears case hardened and nitride coated. That should be able to hold the power I am looking for and I wont have to fab up anything for some other trans. I am trying to stay within the mitsu family with this swap. Or as close as possible

So after almost a year of waiting and waiting I finally got my intake manifold back from the machine shop. I have been riding their ass for the last 6 months as they have been paid for a year when I dropped my parts off. Thank god it was right!!! I got it all on and am now finally doing the wiring.
I wanted to wait the this part because i am gonna be tucking and hiding as many wires as possible. Makes for a cleaner nicer look and easier to do work when you dont have a bunch of wires in the way.
I do have a bunch of pictures from the last time I posted till now. I have just waited to post them up cause I was getting pretty down waiting all this time for parts. Pics should be up on the cardomain in the first link this evening so check back later for more updates. Also I will be updating my price list for those of you wondering what all this could cost if the resources are there for you

Well its been way to long since any progress has been made on this. I have got the car running!!! hooray but the ecu I originally purchased had some leaky caps and I ruined it more trying to fix it lol. I borrowed a buddies know good ecu and got it fired up. Revs like a sport bike, fast and hard!. But alas I had to give that back so the car has been sitting for a while now.
So i finally got the motivation to sell my truck and finish this up as its getting warmer here and I will be moving to Arizona here shortly and I want this to drive there.
So yesterday I ordered some struts I needed up front and some 5 point harnesses to hold me. A new clutch because the one I have in it is no good and wont work for me. Got the spec stage 3 6 puck sprung disk unit. And I am currently setting up the order for a DIYAUTOTUNE DIYPNP unit. From what I am hearing these are the way to go for sure. I just cant wait till it all shows up but I do have some things to do in the mean time to get it all ready.
I AM SO EXCITED LOL its been far to long looking at this in the driveway and giving it a little rub on the way by every day

I am finally in the red zone with this swap!!!!! I am waiting on a 90* silicone coupler to tie the piping to the intake and I have to weld a piece to the water pump for he lower radiator hose. Run some external wires for the megasquirt. Install the front struts and fill the trans with fluid. And thats it. Then i get to tune in the ecu and have fun!!!!
Its been two and a half long years with this thing and close to $10000 spent to look at it every day sitting there looking sad and lonely but I am within inches of the goal.
I wish I knew how to upload pics to the site but I cant seem to figure that out for your viewing pleasure to see some of what I have done. It may help some of you get yours rolling as well.
Maybe somebody a little better at that could let me know how or post them up for me I would like to share some of it with all of you as I have taken a bunch of knowledge from those how have
