What EXACT trans setup bolts to Evo 9 4g63?
I have searched and searched and have yet to find the answer to the question in the title of this thread. I have a 1958 AH Sprite and just put my 2006 Mitsu Evo 9 engine in it with the hopes of running a 89 Starion 5 speed but it doesn't line up at all. Has anybody used an evo 9 motor before for a RWD swap? I need to know what trans, flywheel, clutch, tob and starter to use. I still have the Evo's flywheel, ACT HD clutch and starter on hand if possible to use.

the EVO 4 through 9 share the same bolt pattern, all my housings are built to accept this bolt pattern but, you must use the second gen 7 bolt flywheel and convert to the push style clutch from the first gen 4G63
the starter will remain on the drivers ( left) side of the engine
you can use the
T 5 or TKO trans
W series 55 through 59 trans
R 154 trans
R 150 and 151 trans

the wide and narrow block version of the 4G63 will not interchange with the EVO4 through 9

So, here's a good question regarding the dsm/evo 1-3 vs evo 4-9 pattern. How well does the 2g dsm pattern line up with the evo 4-9? They look similiar but the alignment dowel is different.
My prediciment is I have several 4d68T engines. Sadly at the time when I bought them, I didn't realize they changed block bolt patterns like they have with the later version dsm/evo 4-9. My 4D68T's have the EVO 4-9 pattern, so they won't bolt up to my 1g stuff. I'm gearing up to go the 2g route. To do so, I'd like to bore out the upper bolt boss on the 2g trans to allow use of the dowel so it'll mate to the EVO patterned 4d68t. Though I'm still collecting some parts to try this.
I know you've collected a bunch of different vin parts there. Do you have a 2g dsm block plate you can overlay on the evo4-9 pattern? Do they align?

these are the three bolt patterns, the first and second gen block share the exact bolt pattern but the second gen added a 5th bolt 'about' where the EVO is located, but not exactly
the EVO4 through9 'looks' like the second gen bolt pattern but it uses a different hole as a guide pin locater AND the lower right bolt boss is raised a substantial amount as you can see
Interesting. It would appear that all my 4D68T's, do in fact, have the EVO pattern. Craptastic.
Only saving grace would be that I could drill the "5th" hole location on a 2g trans to allow the alignment dowel in the 4D68T to mate up.
So, would you have any intersest in making a adapter/spacer to allow a 1g trans to mate up to the EVO pattern? In addition, a spacer for the crank to offset the clutch. I'd buy 4 sets for all my diesels.

no, the 5th hole in the EVO is about 5mm higher then the second gen and its the index hole for locating the center to the trans so it has to be placed exactly in its placeMorpheus wrote:Interesting. It would appear that all my 4D68T's, do in fact, have the EVO pattern. Craptastic.
