give me a str8 answer with g box bolting up!!

Post by ex-evo »

heya, i have a ex lancer with a evo 1 engine . when i made this car i wasnt aware of other g boxs that may of bolted str8 up to the evo block. now being a dumb arse i have blew my 1600 g box with a customised bellhousing to suit the evo block. cant use that bellhousing again as it has a split right through the centre . MANY people say sigma g boxs bolt up so went to pikapart and got one out of a wagon dont fit . though the top bolts fit being a narrow block? not a wide block? and the clutch plate shaft on the sigma is larger than other one.. CAN any one give me a str8 answer to what bolts up to a evo block ... and also running cable clutch. chers brad 0273729298 p.s its the blue one on trademe .

the EVO and the narrow block are not the same bolt pattern, the lower bolts are wider then the narrow block
The R 154 toyota supra trans is best suited to handle the EVO's power, I have them on hand

The evo 1-3 engine has the same bolt pattern as a 1G & 2G Eclipse

evo 4-9 have one hole moved up a bit (damm U Mitsu)

Starion 4g63 and G63B are 'wide' block engines and share the same bolt pattern as the G54B

As to what fits: 4 & 5 speed from a 1600 Galant from around '80
A box from a L200 and L300 2.0 petrol might fit (those are very rare here so I have not been able to verify).
Some old rwd Hyundai's (Pony) gearboxes should fit.

The biggest problem with most of those gearboxes is is that they are weak and you don't really want em.
The box from the 1600 already breaks when you abuse it with the 1600.

With all the effort involved. You may be better off just buying a good toyota box and a bellhousing from Bill.
I use a adapterplate & starion Box myself but not sure how long that'll last.

Theres not really anything that "bolts up" to an evo block, that will handle any abuse whatsoever.
If you intend keeping the car it'd be well worth buying a custom bellhousing off Bill here, and running a R154 or if you don't have that budget, a w55 box or similar. Will handle alot more that the factory lancer box ever would.
Last time i checked on trademe R154 boxes started at around $1800nzd so they aren't cheap, but it'd take alot of abuse to break one that has had the thrust washer modified.
