Tank's FC Build. (2.4 wideblock swap eventually)

Post by Tank »

Just wanted to get started with my FC. This is my current daily driver. Once I get the current eclipse running nice it will getting a 2.4 wide-block swap. Why swap a 2.4 into an Mazda and not a v-8? Weight reduction, reliability, gas mileage, and familiarity. Been working with the 4g63 and its cousins for several years. Its not as heavy as v-8 (or the 13b I am guessing since most of the swaps end up within 60-90 lbs of the orginal weight). Its cheaper, and much much more durable than a 13b. 13b engines are great, if your a rotard. I'm not. But I do love the FC liftbacks.

Onto pics/info.

I had a budget of 1000$ for my daily, and the requirements where that it got better than 20 mpg highway, could drink regular unleaded, and was 5-speed with no major engine repairs needed. This fit the bill perfectly. So far I have about 900$ In to it with tune up items and purchase. Clutch is only slipping in 5th under medium load, and 4th under full throttle right now so I will be waiting a bit on the clutch replacement, but that rear diff mount has got to be fixed asap.

Going to document the goings on with this car which will eventually get a 4g64 wideblock, with a 2g head. Unsure on exact specs of build yet. I am thinking of going with a high compression E-85 build. I want to take advantage out of the increased economy that e-85 can get with high comp motors. Plus anything better than 180 rwhp will make happy for a DD. I will be using a T-II transmission, and probably T-II rear end unless this has a LSD rear. If so I will just grab the T-II trans to N/A Rear end driveshaft from mazda trix.

I plan to start buying parts as soon as the maintenance is up to date on the car. I will be building up the engine on the side while it is daily driven. I will be looking for a wideblock b2600 bell-housing first.
