SOHC to DOHC questions

Post by Evolved »

I'm new here and am having trouble finding the right info I'm looking for. I am doing a SOHC to DOHC swap using a narrow block 4g64 block from a 98 eclipse GS spyder and I want to use a DOHC head from a 98 eclipse GSX. Problem is when comparing the heads, there are some holes that don't match up between the two. From what i read on here, all the 4g6X heads are interchangeable, but what do I do about those holes? like do they need to be blocked off and how etc.

also having transmission issues.. swapped the AWD transmission, flywheel, clutch, etc. from the GSX to the 4g64 block. but its not going into gear properly. (it worked just fine in the GSX, did i set it up wrong or something?) its as if the clutch wont fully engage. tried bleeding it, replaced master and slave cylinders, still not working

any help is much appreciated. links, info, anything. thank you!

Link please? I am having trouble sorting through all the information as most of it is vague to cover a wide range of stuff I am looking for specifics for my engine

that site only talks about the 4g63 and doing rear wheel swaps. mine is all wheel drive.

I have photos I can upload if that would help.. the head shape even is partially different as the dohc head seems smaller than my 4g64 block. if you have done this swap before please help as i am new to swapping engines like this. ive only done rebuilds and repairs..

by the way the holes i am concerned for are on the 4g64 block. when the dohc head is set on top the holes are open on the side of the block still. (since the bigger sohc head covers those holes normally) so if i were to drive it like that oil or coolant would be shooting out that hole. (very bad)

i am confused because this site says the heads can be swapped right across but i didnt see anything on what to do about that hole

pictures always help

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Okay so I found out the holes are just non pressurized oil drain holes. What's the best way to plug them? Also I read that ill need new pistons so my valves wont hit them. If I just use my 64 rods with the 63 piston would that work?
