FD rx7 4g63 swap

Post by oyayjoe »

Hey guys i am gaining much interest on doing a 4g63 3rd gen rx7 swap... wondering if anybody could provide me with any information. I have seen the MAP performance one but am unable to find their build thread or any detailed pics or information on how the longblock itself is mounted and what rwd tranny options are available. Thanks in advance for any help.

Will a FC Turbo transmission work in a FD? Is it possible to swap the B2600 bellhousing to the FD manual transmission?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

The TII trans bolts to the FD motor perfectly with the use of a TII clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing (push/pull) and starter.

I am already starting this project myself (obtained motor, trans, shell, etc). Essentially, there is no way to bolt the 4g motor in, so you have to fab up your own mounts.

The easiest way to do it, is to source a wideblock motor, a B2600 Mitsubishi "style" bellhousing, and bolt it to the FD transmission using your stock driveline. Then use a 240mm Starion clutch, and rig your clutch appropriately. Of course, wiring, tuning, etc. all have to be addressed.

You have been given the information based on knowledge available from persons on this site.

I am sure you have been looking through the site and found that there are no RX7 swaps on here as of yet. It looks like it is up to you to be the first to potentialy share that information here.

If someone knows to answer to what you are asking, they will give an answer. Having looked at the FD LS mount you are talking about, you would be starting with a 1,000+ part that doesn't do what you need. I suggest you find a fabricator, or learn to weld very well and rent a welder. You are going to need either one anyway to get the v8 crossmember in.

You are in unchartered territory and are going to have to be somewhat self sufficient as to getting the engine mounted in this project.
