Newbie here first post. Before the flaming begins, I'm just going to say that I have all these parts laying around, so I am think about costs. It's mostly a "yeah, I bet I can get away with it!" kind of thing.
I am the unfortunate victim of the "stupid driver running into me" epidemic. I have a 94' RX7 which was beautiful until the smash. Lady ran red light and essentially tore most of the front end of my car off. Insurance paid, sold off the drivetrain, interior, etc so I made a bit of money, but am left with the shell, which no one seems to want.
So, I have an FD shell completely stripped with a salvage title. Worth almost nothing. Tried to sell for $1,200 and no takers.
I have a 7 bolt motor laying around. 93'
I have a TII RX7 transmission laying around.
And I have a lot of extra DSM parts.
You can see where this is going. I want to put that 7 bolt into my FD. I've been looking at a track car recently and thought, hey, just maybe. I am way stoked to find out that the 4g bolts up with almost no modification, and further more to find that I have 95% of the parts to make it happen already. So, it's like a free track car!
I know that it's "wrong!" to do, but I don't care. I have a 93' R1 (bone stock and beautiful) with a very happy and very thirsty REW. No way I am swapping that out for anything, but since I have the piece of poo ratty 94' shell left, hey, why not? I know i need the b2600 non g6 bell housing, ecu, custom mounts, etc.
So, really, my only question so far is this. Since I need a wideblock 4g6x motor to bolt to the 2600 bellhousing to bolt to the TII trans, can I pull a j-yard 4g63 wideblock motor and then just swap the entire 7 bolt motor to the block? Or should I just try and source a complete wideblock engine? The 7 bolt runs, and is complete. That's it for now.
Thanks guys!
Trying to wrap my head around everything. One question.

I think that would be a fun project. Here's a FD with the swap, although they used an automatic.

Best suggestion is to find a 7-bolt wide block. You get the main girdle and all DSM stuff should swap over. If you choose to go with a 2.4L block, then you will have to do a full build.
Depending on your budget, I would suggest a stock 2.0L block and your DSM pistons so that you can properly sort out the car first. While you're shaking the car down, you can take your time and do a full engine build to take advantage of the great FD chassis.

7 Bolt wideblock (sorry for ignorance) meaning which motor is that? That's the one thing I really am not too sure about, is locating the wideblock. I just know I have a narrowblock.
Anyway, like I mentioned, I've already got the shell (roller) which no one wants because of it's salvage title, and the Tii trans, and the motor. So, really, it's as cheap as it can get....unless I swap my 240sx drivetrain in there. But an SR20 in an FD is not cool IMO, don't know why a 4g is though.
Thanks!

Wideblocks are RWD 4G motors. They are found in trucks and vans. Not all truck and van motors are wideblocks. All the parts from your narrow block DSM motor can swap over so that you can retain the TII transmission and retain to strength of the DSM engine up to about 400hp is staying stock. It will also give you a chance to go through the motor and replace wear items and check its condition.
Or you could get a different transmission and get an adaptor to the narrow block motor.

Take the RX7 chassis to the scrap yard and get $100 for it and then get a Starion with a bad head gasket for $100 and go with that instead.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
I've never seen a Starion in a J-yard over here, and I've been plenty of times. However, my neighbor has one, wont sell it though.
Thanks guys for the info. I'll post up when some momentum picks up with the build.
So, essentially for the engine/tranny combo, I have to do the following right? I've been reading, just trying to make sure i read it right.
Wideblock. Find in RWD vehicle, but make sure it's a real wideblock (not all vehicles had a wideblock) and a 2.0 if I want the DSM stuff to work.
Swap over DSM internals (may as well just rebuild the thing).
B2600 housing (non G6), 87-88
TII tranny, all done. Right?
Just want to make sure, thanks!
