This was a huge advancement in this project,I am very happy that all the idea's have come together this well up to this point, the only real obsticale at this piont is the starter mount, but I am sure that will be overcome
anytime you build a ridge into the metal, you have to straighten out the material , this is a punch converted to a shrinker using merchant jaws
this is a pass through flywheel bolt araingement, I have found ARP fasteners for the flywheel
I built a small die to add another bend in the flex plates at the mounting bolt area, notice the fit of the converter nose in the crankshaft coupler
this was a tight fit, it was a series of selected over counter parts that once bolted together everything fell into place

an inch is as good as a mile when you are in charge

I knew placing the starter would be the toughest part of the build, so I moved ot around many times before I decided on the placement, this is a neet little puzzle

I just keep cutting, fitting ,welding and shaping the housing

Thanks Bill but please don't I've only been married since June 2011 I need to try and make that 1 year milestone.
If I did'nt have so much tied up into these 4 clys I would change engine program without question, but who knows I'll revisit the thought once I think we are tapped out for HP. Which is far from close at this point.

there is a difference in starter rotation that has been asked about , when you do a reverse starter application, its good to know you rotate the enging in the proper direction

I must have torn apart 50 starters looking for length and direction

I hated the first starter location, there were two problems with it, first in didnt set the starter between bellhousing bolt boses and relied on only one main bolt station to limlt and deflection in the starter, the other problem was special shifter linkage would have been required
because of the depth of the starter gear, I had a choice. build a custom gear or build the starter body right into the bellhousing, well I hate custom parts, all these parts are available over the counter so I spent the time to place the front of the starter pocket into the bellhousing

I should be filling it all in and getting it to casting this month

Bill, fantastic work.. Is the C-4 the only trans housing that you're making for this?
As in the second pic in your thread, What is the rough dimensions of the engine complete from manifold to manifold, and front of pulleys to rear?
Is that hole above the bell housing the water outlet of the engine?
Don't know much about the 6g's

the starter gear mounts right into the adaptor plate instead of having an extended nose on the starter
I built another flexplate and went back to the GM 153 tooth set up
now I can use a generic reduction gear starter and connect to the GM ring gear
