What are your 4g64 DOHC turbo spool characteristics?

Post by AustinTSI »

I'm trying to decide what turbo to get and was wondering if some of you that have this could mention:

I'm trying to decide between a Holset HX-40 and an HX-52 with a twin scroll manifold.

1. what exhaust manifold and turbo do you have ?
2. when does your boost start (rpm) ?
3. when do you hit full boost by (rpm) ?
4. how much boost (psi) ?
5. what rpm does your power max out (rpm) ?
6. what do you (dis)like about your power range ?
7. is your car for the street or strip?

Thanks.

I've only delt with a 2.4 and a 18g a 20g and a 50trim and a fp3065. They all spool ridiculously fast. The 3065 is between the hx40 & 52. It would hit full boost by around 4k rpms 28psi.

What was your useable rpm range and what was your red-line?

I'm trying to decide if I want to go with an HX-40 or an HX-52 on my 2.4 Either way I will be going with a twin scroll on a fully built 2G head and fully built 6-bolt block.

id say useable powerband was 3500-7800 ish. it was a stock 1g head so we didnt push the revs on the stock valvetrain. completely daily driver friendly was like having a little turbo. 2.4's are great aside from the headgasket and block cracking issues. what are you building the car for?

Made me go back and look at my run logs.
I'm using a PTE 6262 with a .82 trim. Custom Exhaust Manifold.

Yeah, spools up pretty fast, really starts to hit hard at about 3000RPM.
runs up to 25lbs practically straight up. redline is 8K.

Strictly racing.
