Got me wondering

Post by 2-87 quests »

I know I am new here and only know one person on this forum, but they told me that someone who has more knowledge than me might be able to help me to figure out this problem.

I bought an 87 quest TSI about a week ago. Had one about 18 years ago and loved it. Well, this one runs great for about 10 min of running and getting hot then it starts to bog down and has no boost and has stopped on my and would not start till it cooled off.

I thought it might be the cat covertors, but that was not the issue. I have changed everything I thought it might be and it is still doing the same thing. I know that the wastegate actuator is not working correctly but I wired the gate open to try it out. As I figured, the turbo has no boost but after about 10 min of getting hot, it is still bogging down.

I am tired of throwing money at it and getting no where.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

My 86 runs like shit if I leave the Boost sensor on the firewall plugged in?.?.? I know its not a fix, but try unplugging the electrical connector from the boost sensor and fire it up..

My legacy had a similar issue and the problem ended up being a toasted turbo- there was a ton of play when I checked the impellers. I would check there.
