1981 Celeste GSR DOHC 4g63 swap

Post by hot ham »

Hi Im Sam. A cuple of months ago my 4g52 desided that it couldent be borther to power my celeste any more and cracked its head. After 2 replacement heads were also found to be cracked I gave up and desided to do the 4g63 swap and fix some rust while I'm at it.

So far I've removed the old lump of pig iron, striped the interior and started attacting the rust. I plan to use the celeste box and install a DOHC engine from a 1990-1992 galant vz-r or vx-z and keep it N/A as this is my first engine swap and I'm on cheep wages. The only thing I can't do my self is the wiring and since my frind who is an auto sparky has left the area I live in, so I have to use the apprentice from a local shop. This means I need some clear drections on how to wire it up.

The spare wheel well was the only really rusty place on the car.

Time for an over due up date. I have bolted in the dummy engine and started plumbing it up. I am going to keep the standard Celeste radiator and have made a low hose to suit, but I will have to wait until I have move the thermostat housing to make the top hose. Wiring wise I'm hoping to keep the standard 4G63 computer and get it wired in for cash. The block is a wide block so I am keeping the standard Celeste gearbox as I wont be doing skids every were.

For the body I've cut the rust out of the boot and are hoping to weld patches in tonight or maybe next week. All the other rust has been cleaned off and PA10 which is haw it will stay until I paint it. There is nothing but the dash left inside it as I tock it all out while looking for rust.

RWD EVO manifold which, by the way, has smaller ports so I'm sending it back for a VR4 manifold
