Beyond my limited knowledge threshold....

Post by daedalus »

I feel like I may be choosing the wrong forum to post in, but, I need help.

I have myself a bone-stock 87 Conquest TSI. Located in America if it makes any difference.

Any way, I bought it last week, did the basic tune-up; plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. Air filter looked really clean so I held off on it. The car will hit about 5psi of boost and nothing higher. Under full throttle I typically see about2 psi, if I do hit 5psi it drop quickly when I get to about 4500-5000, reading 0-2psi on the gauge.. I've driven a Starion running properly and it was much faster than this car. IT IS SOOOOOOOOO SLOW!

The motor (27k mi) is a crate motor from Mitsubishi installed at a dealer. The turbo was replaced at that time as well. The car had also sat for ten years, with little to no movement during that time.

Check the internal wastegate actuator and see if it is hooked up. You may also want to do a boost leak test on it and check for any exhaust leaks.

Also I would put a real boost gauge on the car to see what it is accually doing and would check for boost leaks and make sure the WG isn't hanging open.
