i am starting my 4g64, i was wondering if any one knows how much abuse it will hold.
i have all of the n/a parts, so i was going to get the motor running n/a untill i have enough money to buy the turbo parts.
i was thinking i could put 7psi to the stock lower end and have no problems. has anyone put the pistons and rods to the test?

what a nice port job, probally hurt it more than i helped it.

I really dont like talk "from what i hear" but people beat the shit outta these things if you search throught the DSM foums you'll see many members use the 4g64 as an excuse to run bigger turbos and crazy set-ups

As for running the stock engine I would'nt do it if you are swaping into a starion the g54b is better to live with

And if you plan on swaping on the DOHC head you HAVE TO HAVE PISTONS or your valves will hump your stock pistons with an 11:1 compression ratio

Do like I did and surf the boards for people with 4g64 swaps and get to asking away

will the valves hit the piston or will i just have 11 to 1 compression. i really dont care what the compression comes out to, as long as its under 12 to 1.

If you're going with the turbo head and stock pistons don't turbo it. The compression will be enough as it is. You won't be able to control knock even with race gas. No one who has done the swap and kept the stock pistons said they bent any valves, just that knock was uncontrollable with boost.

i was hopeing that with 5 pounds it would not detonate,( you can put 5 psi to a type r, with 11 to 1) does anyone know how much power i might get n/a with a bunch of compression. i was thinking it would make about 160.

I would think that the extra displacement from the 2.4L, the extra airflow from the turbo head, and the high compression would be capable of 200HP if tuned correctly.

With gas prices like they are, just make a 14:1 compression motor and run it on Methonol!

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Actually I've been thinking about making biodiesel for $0.70 a gallon. Mitsubishi did have the 2.3L diesel motor based on the 2.6L block here in the US but they're more rare than the 2.4L. In other markets they had a 2.5L diesel off the same block and diesel engines based off the 2.0L and 2.4L blocks!

biodiesel? mike get a grip, put a clutch in your 1g dsm, crank it back up to the 18psi you once knew, and then FINISH the wiring on your truck, im sure biodiesel is nice and all for mileage, why waste the time on a slowass diesel hog? especially if its gonna be that hard to find an engine... you could always buy a 240sx... lol, you'd only have to install a new knock sensor, water pump, timing chain, clutch, flywheel, bikirom, injectors, window regulator, ... my car is starting to sound like nissan/dsm hybrid... oh yeah, being serious now, they have a 4g6x diesel block? interesting, every dsm should have one, or two, whatever makes it go as fast as it should
