swapping EVO cams?

Post by 77amc »

I've seen what seems like plenty of EVO cams for sale and fairly cheap.
Will they swap into any of the 4g6x (colt, talon, eclipse, vr4, yadda yadda..)

I'd like to do cheap upgrades to this colt motor, like the galant head, 14b stuff, 1g mas...
I plan on just getting the 61t up and running, things sorted out and when I get the need for more, build up the g64 and swap that in.

Thanks E

i don't think it would work because of the cps and those motors are backwards of all the other 4g6x motors

AARRGGgg!!

Doing some 'google-in' and found this.
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine ... -spin.html

Maybe it has something to do with the sensors that attach to the cam ends..?

Any rebuttals?

I guess the problem would be you would have the evo exhaust cam for your intake if they fit in the head.

I dont know if you just can just swap them, might actually work..
Guess someone has to try.

that makes no sense, if they fit you would put them in the correct spots, but from what I understand they don't fit.
The evo motor is no different in rotation than the early 63, they both spin clockwise. All mitsubishi did was take the engine tranny assembly and rotate it 180 degrees.

on the Evo engine the intake and exhaust are swapped compared to the dsm.

And the whole engine is then turned 180 degrees.

So if you would take a evo exhaust cam and place it in the same location in the dsm head.. it would be on the intake side..

But I don't have a evo head to compare the details.

This is pretty interesting to say the least..

Its' just that some of these are from a third to a sixth of the price of the so-called regular turbo 4g63's.

Thanks for the info. Keep it coming

O K... SO, any fitment issues? Can you give more info on what you did to make them work?

Hey.. IS this engine running properly?

Nope, no fitment issues at all. It's an easy swap, no modifications neceserry. Engine is running great.

anything from an evo I, II, or III will work because it was before they did the 180 degree rotation. Anything from an evo 4+ will not. The exhaust and intake were swaped after the motor was spun 180 degrees. The cams are wrong for this reason. Like what was said before, the only way it would work is if you found some cams where the exhaust matched the characteristics you wanted in your intake cam and the intake matched what you wanted in your exhaust. I HIGHLY recommend against that though. Where are you seeing cheap cams? Seriously, FP has cams for like 200 dollars each, thats 400 for a set. Anything cheaper and your risking thousands of dollars of labor to fix the damaged caused by your overly cheap parts.
