I did some measurements and found that the front of the oil pan would be right over the front crossmember, so I obvioulsy have to move it. this is in a FC RX-7 btw.
I was thinking to just remove it and replace it with a custom bent tubing brace.. but does anyone think (with a few modifications) I could use one from a starion or 240, ect?
I had the idea to flip it 180 degree's, since it's in a bent shape and this MIGHT allow me to clear the oilpan, but I dont know if it can be done. I think this part is going to have to be a custom tubeframe piece.
then I'm going to have to figure out what the steering rack is going to attach to, since it's bolted to this part. and I still may have to modify the oil pan slightly to fit the steering rack.
one solution I have come up with is to extend the oil sump to the back of the engine and reverse the oil pan (with lots of modifications also).. this would allow it to fit in while retaining the stock rx7 crossmember. But, I dont know how that would affect the engine getting it's much needed oil.
front crossmember?

it sounds like you need to custom make a oil pan or go with a dry sump.
messing around with the crossmember and the steering rack( well mostly the steering rack) is to much math for the average joe. i think your best bet is to make the motor fit the car and not the car fit the motor

Isnt the steering rack on the front of the crossmember?
I know that when Chris Forsberg and Tony Angelo did the SRX7 (Front sump SR in an FC) they notched the crossmember.
I'd still have to say, go with the custom oil pan. Its not rocket science, but it'll take some fab skills. Work with aluminum, it'll be easier to cut the pices to shape. There are pictures of the Moroso pan on RRE's site. I have them on my computer too if you want them. Obviously you'll need to make your own pickup, but you've got plenty to work with.
Now that's just how I would do it. How do you have the engine in there now? Is it bolted to the transmission?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
