1976 corolla rally car swap, (now with working pic's)

Post by freetard »

so i picked up this dirty old rally/ice racing car. $400, full caged, with a running mazda 12a rotory under the hood. i even daily drove it for 2months.

the car was ok, but it needed alot of work. the suspention was garbage(ghetto lowered at some point in its life). the 1" think bondo on the roof was comming off. and the 1.1l rotory was cool and all, but just not quick enough.

so i got this shop (split with 3 other friends)

so now the car sits 95% striped. i'm looking for an other te30 corolla that i can take the roof/glass/doors/fenders and hood from. as for the suspention, plan is to mount an independent suspention rear sub frame, and same deal with the front suspention.

plan for the motor is 2.4l wide block bottem end. with stock sohc pistons. a 43cc chamber 1.8l dohc head. this should make around a 12:1 compression ratio, if it all works out. toss in a turbo harness with knock sensor, ecmlink to tune, gsxr throttles(8 injectors), and some super nasty cams.

i got a 1990 talon right now that needs lots body work on one side, the brakes are toast, and it not realy in the best of shape. i think its going to donate a lot of its parts to the project.

i also just picked up a 1990 dodge ram50, it needs to be turboed, but that can wait.

after looking over this caged car, iv decided to scrap it. theres just too much rust, and its just to bent. so im going to take its cage. and stick it in the is much much better condition car.

Are you goint to run that 1g rear with the na 2.4? If you are planning to turbocharge it, I'd opt for a stronger rear axle, it would probably be fine with na hp/tq.

That looks like a Talon AWD rear subframe..?

I might be selling my g64 wide-block, block (only 81K miles).
But first I need to research if/how/where to get a narrow g64 block..

shipping might be a killa though

What part of Canada?

yeah im planing for a high comp 16v 2.4l NA motor, and its going to be a very very light car, so it should hold up, if not i can upgrade to a 4bolt rear end with out much truble.

i managed to get most of the cage out today, damn thats a lot of work, lots of places you just cant get the grinder in with the car all around it, so you have to remove lots of car first. i'll add some gussets and a couple of extra tubes just to be safe.
