things to do... GO FAST SIDEWAYS!!!!!
(need some help to do so)
ok so i took the head off and got a 4g63 1g head last night to put on it. problem, the cooling system for the head is on the back of the block and hits the firewall. im just at this step now. what do i need to do to the head to make it fit the truck???? what parts should i get bottom end to make sure that it will run good with like 20psi. im new to building a project like this and need some assistance.
thanks- Nick

Sooooo retardedly important to do if you actually plan on getting it done.
There are approximately 32525 pages of info regarding those problems you have had. Here's where to start man, google "project zero g", then before going to the forums read the 1st page. Not wanting to sound too crabby, but you are asking question that are covered verbatim. Let me guess the next problem will be," what to do with the cam sensor?", followed quickly with "How much horsepower can the stock tranny hold?"
Its all there. I know that is a ratty way to welcome you to a forum, but the info is all out there already.
Good luck man

Lol more like water issue first, CAS problem second, then he'll discover that his timing belt don't fit and now he has to change the whole front end too to accommodate the timing tensioners he is going to need, then they wont bolt on over the water pump... hmm what to do there? and then after all of those issues, ultimately... his intake manifold wont fit, and will be facing 180* the wrong direction.Verdad wrote:Step 1: Research project.

then when he gets all those problems figured out he will make the discovery that he now needs Electronic ignition cause he lost the distributor in the head swap, and basically now needs an entire ECU and harness whether it be aftermarket or an upgraded 1g.
Dude just dont know what he got himself into...
Suggestion as I just did this myself the other day.
1. Go to wrecking yard and locate 1 Mighty max with engine in tact and 1 1g eclipse gs or gsx and remove both entire engines and set them somewhere together where you can work on both of them at once
2. strip heads off, oil pumps off, and all timing tensioners and the likes.
3. start with the 4g64 wideblock and water pump and water pipe you pulled from the max, bolt the eclipse oil pump, alternator, and timing tensioners on (1 tensioner will not totally fit without the water pump mod but thats work for later, for now just finger tighten stuff to get it out of the yard)
4. drop and bolt on the eclipse DOHC head, exhaust manifold and intake manifold.
5. just in case, or for later use, grab all pulleys from both engines, and if you want to take the eclipse crank for future projects too, could make a nice 2.3l destroker with a 12k+ redline and its basically the only part needed for the destroker conversion.
6. Carry 1 "complete" (in the yards eyes) engine to the counter. I got out for less than $225
by now youll notice you dont have a timing belt or if you tried at the yard with the 2.0l belt you discovered it dont fit, theres only 1 belt in existence made for this conversion and it only came from 1 year and 1 model of 1 car ever. 94 Galant GS... stressing the GS part here. its the only one that came out 2.4l dohc.
go home and rebuild this with new bearings and rings, dished pistons are nice too, do the gaskets and seals and o rings and all, do the water pump, water exit and intake manifold modifications necessary then drop her in. I was able to do all this minus the mods in 2 days including the work at the wrecking yard and the rebuild and swapping the WHOLE engine... its only 10 - 14mm bolts and 2 - 10mm bolts and its out.
the engine management is on you since I already gave you the 1-6 and most all the details your gonna want
