speed sensor help

hey just finished wiring the loom up to the ecu in a sohc to dohc swap in a l200, when to start it and im not getting any spark and the injectors ant switching, i pulled the error code out of the ecu and i think it says speed sensor. will this stop the engine from running/starting?

Speed sensor or camshaft/crankshaft sensor ? I you are not getting a reading in the ecu that the engine is attempting to rotate, nothing will fire.

It may be that if the "speed" sensor dies nothing works as a safety precaution.

hey got it running had a dodgy earth to the chassis. what does the speed sensor do in the ecu? Is it required as i have a mechanical spedo cable and there no speed output on the gauge.

It's not required, some cut it out on JDM ecu's to get rid of the 180km/h speed limiter.

But on some ecu's it will throw a code.
Can also be that the engine does not behave as nice on decelleration (since it can't tell if it needs to idle or your still moving)
